Senior Building Code Consultant

Company Overview:

For over three decades, Burnham Nationwide has provided Permit Management and Building Code and Sustainability Consulting Services for the Construction and Commercial Services Industry. Clients include architectural and general contracting firms, but we also coordinate with building managers/owners, developers and businesses to ensure they have the proper permits and documentation to build and run their businesses.

Position:

Architectural Code Consultants, working in Burnham's Code Consulting Group, are responsible for providing support in conducting plan reviews, site inspections (Chicagoland Only), code research, and the preparation of letters, code opinions and reports. The position also supports the overall operation by assisting Burnham Project Managers and clients in obtaining municipal approvals economically and efficiently without compromising public health, safety and welfare.

Responsibilities:

• Research municipal and private industry building codes and apply to plan reviews and code inspections on new and existing buildings.

• Oversee multiple projects while keeping stakeholders informed, managing customer expectations/timelines for submittals and deadlines.

• Interface and communicate effectively with city officials, design professionals, contractors and building owners.

• Represent Burnham and clients at trade association meetings, project meetings and in-person municipal meetings as required.

• Conduct and support occasional 'Lunch and Learns' hosted by Burnham, or privately for clients, for continuing education credits through AIA.

• Support administrative duties in our CRM, maintaining/updating PowerPoint presentations and RFP/RFQs.

• Works direct with Burnham Project Managers and Senior Project Managers to answer their questions as well as respond to customer needs

• Maintain applicable certifications by attending training sessions as assigned.

• Answers basic questions and inquiries in writing and over the telephone.

Qualifications:

• Undergraduate degree from an accredited institution/equivalent experience or 5-10+ years working with construction documentation.

• Working knowledge of constructions drawings, building & life safety code regulations, and common municipal policies and procedures. An understanding of accessibility codes (ADA, FHA) a plus.

• Basic knowledge of structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing and energy codes

• Strong communication and organizational skills and the ability to meet multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

• Excellent Written and verbal communication skills with strict attention to detail.

• Exercises initiative and displays independent judgment.

• Tech Skills: Proficient with MS Office, GSuite, Zoom Meetings, Adobe PDFs, CRM Navigation

Schedule/Office Presence & Dress Code:

Hours 8am - 5pm, Monday-Friday with Friday Summer hours released at 2:30pm. Training is in-office for the first few weeks with options for working remote. In-office dress is business casual, and we provide custom tailored collared shirts that are monogrammed to wear when you are customer facing. We want you to look your best!
