The McCance Center for Brain Health in the Neurology Department at the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) is a Harvard affiliated Center in Boston well poised to the discovery of interventions that promote brain health. The Clinical Trials Unit within the McCance Center is building up capacity for conducting state-of-the-art interventions ranging from novel small compounds to multi-domain lifestyle interventions for the prevention of neurological disorders (i.e., Alzheimer and Parkinson disease, vascular dementia). The Brain Nutrition Laboratory within the McCance Center is leading the international efforts to identify and establish distinct nutritional requirements for cognitive health. Current McCance Center core and affiliate faculty and staff are interdisciplinary, including expertise in neurology, psychiatry, neuroscience, nutrition and metabolism, genetics, exercise science, sleep, data sciences, clinical trials and epidemiology. We are looking for a biostatistician leader to join our Center.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Clinical Trials Director and Director of the McCance Center for Brain Health, the Biostatistician will be responsible for the following:

  • Composing statistical analysis plans and contributing input into human investigations, including clinical trials and observational studies for publication and grant proposals

  • Analysis of nutritional, genetic and 'omic' fluid biomarker data in relation to cognition, neuropathology and neuroimaging outcomes

  • Develop/implement new and creative statistical approaches to the analysis of clinical trial and high dimension data

  • Develop/implement new and creative data capture approaches to streamline our clinical research databases

  • Consolidate and organize clinical trial and observational study datasets for secondary analyses to support novel discoveries and grant submissions preliminary sections

  • Advise on study design, sample and power calculations and ensure integrity of randomization schemes in clinical trials

  • Contribute to Data and Safety Monitoring Board and Food and Drug Administration reports

  • Build team of analysts to serve the Center in the future as additional funding becomes available

  • Other duties as assigned

The incumbent will promote the lab environment, technical skills, and strategies to optimize data management, analysis, and reporting throughout the McCance Center. The incumbent will support efforts to secure and maintain research grants and other sources of funding to support research activities and to further the research mission of the Department, the Center, and the Hospital.

  • PhD or similar in Biostatistics with competencies in software such as STATA, SAS, SPSS, or R, or programing languages such as PYTHON or SQL.

  • Experience with longitudinal and high dimensional data in clinical trial settings of repeated measures and/or binary time to event outcomes

  • Experience through publication of clinical trial and observational designs, including precision medicine approaches is an asset.

  • Experience or knowledgeable with Epic or other Electronic Health Records (EHRs) is an asset

  • Excellent communication skills, impeccable follow through, and timely reporting of results

  • Experience in leading a team of analysts/biostatisticians/informaticians is an asset

  • 10 years in leadership positions in clinical research (Manager level or above).
