Essential Job Functions &

Responsibilities:
  • Evaluate bodily injuries inflicted by machinery, automobiles, mechanical equipment, slip/trip and falls and other application areas

  • Conduct field investigations relating to crash safety and impact biomechanics

  • Document accident scenes and gather information that is the basis for subsequent analysis, simulation, and/or testing

  • Failure and accident analysis on incidents involving all types of vehicles, vessels, and mechanical equipment and evaluate their impact on the human body

  • Conduct vehicular accident reconstruction and mechanical failure analysis

  • Conduct unbiased investigations for various types of clients

  • Responsible for retention and development of client relationships

  • Provide technical findings and conclusions in laymen's terms, both verbally and in writing

  • Evaluate vehicle crash and occupant safety related accidents

  • Support conclusions by appropriate testimony in legal proceedings

  • Deliver professional presentations, develop client relationships and promote self to client groups

  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering REQUIRED

  • Master's Degree in Mechanical, Biomechanical or Biomedical Engineering REQUIRED

  • A minimum of seven years of post-academic work experience, high preference for prevous forensic experience

  • Education or training in Human Anatomy and Impact Biomechanics preferred

  • P.E. registration or the ability to acquire through testing

  • Vehicular knowledge and desire to learn Vehicular Accident Reconstruction

  • Public speaking experience preferred

  • The ability to remain focused when dealing with ambiguity

  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to travel 25% of the time

  • Ability to maneuver in and around an accident site and/or active roadway

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.

  • Ability to drive to site locations via own vehicle

  • Ability to travel by airline

  • Ability to effectively communicate with clients and colleagues

  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment as required by the work site

Position Overview: The Systems Integration Engineer leads successful systems integration / systems engineering related activities, and coordinate with or manage other engineers at peer and junior level engineers. The position is expected to operate with minimum supervision, to manage a team of engineers or the third-party engineering contractors, and to provide mentorship to the mid-level and the entry-level engineers as needed. Location: This role will ideally work out of Kiewit's Englewood (South Denver), CO office. For a Sr. Level role, we can be flexible with the location though. Key Duties and Responsibilities * Serve as a Systems Integration Engineer in the conceptual, preliminary and final design for complex rail transit projects. Responsibilities include: o Work with a team in providing systems engineering oversight for rail transit projects involving traction power, signaling and train control equipment, third rail and/or OCS poles, messenger and contact wire runs, installation of traction power substation and signal buildings, public address equipment, voice and data communication, telephones, fiber optic, CCTV, security alarm, fire detection and suppression, computer systems, and systems integration testing and startup activities. o Responsible for providing technical direction and assuring the accuracy of the work produced by the design team and contractors, including plans, specifications, and estimates. o Witness factory and field testing of systems equipment. o Responsible for interfacing with the other disciplines to ensure proper coordination of the systems aspects of the project. o Ensures compliance of design with all applicable codes and regulations. * Interface with the Project Manager to determine schedules and monitor design progress. o Helps determine budget estimates and staffing requirements for the defined scope and schedule. o Develop Systems Integration and Interface Management Plans o Develop Integration Testing and Acceptance Plans including testing forms, procedures, and approval steps. o Establish and maintain a systematic, documented, comprehensive, and verifiable systems integration processes to be applied through the project s design and construction phases. o Develop and coordinate Interface Control Documents. o Develop and maintain Systems Interface Matrices / Databases. * Understanding of construction means and methods o Knowledge of the principles of traction power and signaling systems. In addition, knowledge of communications and central control facilities is desirable. o Familiarity with rail transit industry standards, practices, and regulations is required. * Experience in design and/or construction management of rail transit systems such as traction power substations, third rail and/or overhead contact systems, signals/train control, and communications is preferred. Expertise Required * Minimum 10 years of progressive work experience and thorough understanding of the following, but not limited to; o Rail & Transit system design, construction, testing and commissioning o Demonstrable understanding of the application System Safety Certification processes and RAMS o Knowledgeable in railway standards such as AREMA, MIL-STD, IEEE and EN o Demonstrable understanding of the application of Systems and Safety o Engineering Concepts, including Design, Verification & Validation, and System o Basic to intermediate understanding of other subsystems such as communications, supervisory control/ SCADA, traction power, tunnel ventilation, on-board, and auxiliary electrical systems o Intermediate to advanced understanding of on-board/ wayside interface o Intermediate to advanced understanding of train control technologies such as Automatic Train Control (ATC), Positive Train Control (PTC), and Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC)Systems integration * Bachelor's Degree in electrical engineering or 10 years equivalent work experience. * Membership with active participation to professional organizations such as AREMA or APTA is desirable. * Ability to travel as business requires About Kiewit As one of North America's largest, most respected construction and engineering organizations, with 2018 revenues of $9 billion, Kiewit exists to make a difference.
