AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Senior Biologist/Project Manager for immediate employment with the Natural Resources Group in the San Diego, CA office. AECOM is proud to provide our employees with exciting, challenging projects and career opportunities.
Primary duties will include technical strategizing, study design, analysis, and reporting for complex wildlife species population effects analyses and risk assessments in support of permit applications and/or compliance. Expertise in statistical analyses and modeling is required.Duties will also manage large-to-small scale projects involving impact assessments, habitat management, and mitigation planning; leading regulatory compliance and permitting efforts including CESA, ESA, BGEPA, and MBTA; and preparing environmental documents and management plans.
Candidate will also consult with resource agency staff, lead complex environmental and/or species-related permitting projects and participate in public review processes. Candidate will contribute to the growth of the department through marketing pursuits including proposal preparation, interviews, and active business development. Successful marketing, especially in the renewable energy market sector, is required.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, those listed below:
Manages a team in preparation of large, complex natural resources documents such as Biological Technical Reports, Biological Assessments, Habitat Management Plans, Eagle Conservation Plans, and Habitat Conservation Plans
Operates as a primary author as appropriate
Manages projects/tasks focused on natural resources
Manages projects with large-scale field efforts and intensive schedules
Manages large-scale compliance projects requiring adherence to permit conditions
Manages preparation of permit applications for federal, state, and local regulatory entities
Performs project management duties such as forecasting, tracking, accounting updates, invoicing, progress reports, and scheduling
Reviews contracts for an understanding of scope, fee, schedule, and deliverables, and all other contractual obligations
Develops work breakdown structure for control and integrity of work to be performed as and defined by the contract
Monitors and analyzes project costs, commitments, accruals, and changes, and takes corrective action where necessary
Identifies trends and deviations in financial performance to project team with recommended courses of action
Operates as a primary point of contact for clients and resource agencies on projects
Performs client management duties such as recurring status meetings, milestone check-ins, and day-to-day interfacing
Collaborates with other senior staff in the office in a team-based environment
Successfully prepares competitive proposals
Interviews well with a large or small team for a variety of clients
Contributes to the growth of practice through business development
Thrives independently and as part of a team; is innovative and a problem solver
Bachelor's degree in science or related field required
10+ years of experience in natural resources/project management
Strong proficiency with statistical software, such as analyzing large multi-year data sets utilizing programs such as SPSS and R
Proficiency in GIS and Microsoft Office tools, particularly Access and Excel, also required
Ability to quickly learn new computer applications, including Oracle-based proprietary programs, also desired
Outstanding oral and written communication skills
Willingness to work with multiple different colleagues on a variety of initiatives
Ability to work in a high-paced environment
Team player with excellent listening skills and diplomacy
