We are seeking a Senior Biologist / Biology Team Lead to supervise and lead field teams and manage biological and wetland field surveys, primarily supporting our energy practice in Texas. This role will focus on routing, siting, and permitting of wind and solar electric power generation, electric transmission lines and substations, natural gas pipelines, and other related facilities.

Location: Remote, Texas (Must reside in Texas)

Your Role:

  • Perform duties as Biology Team Lead, including staffing, organizing, and training junior staff with a focus on Texas and the southeast.

  • Lead and manage field efforts such as wetland delineations (following USACE 1987 Manual and Regional Supplements), wildlife surveys, and rare plant surveys.

  • Manage projects, provide high-level technical support related to ecology, and address environmental concerns for renewable energy, traditional energy, and linear infrastructure projects.

  • Perform due diligence and permitting for energy projects, including writing NEPA documents, mitigation plans, HCPs, ECPs, EITPs, and other documents required under the Endangered Species Act.

  • Support project development, compliance strategy development, and represent clients in negotiations with regulatory agencies.

  • Research and interpret federal, state, and local regulations to assess project permitting feasibility and requirements.

  • Handle multiple projects and tasks, coordinate effectively with others, and work independently and within a team.

  • Technical writing, including technical reports, peer reviews, and proposals.

  • Costing wetland and biological resource tasks for proposals and tracking budgets and projects.

  • Potential to assist or perform other natural resource surveys.

  • Perform field surveys requiring long hours and physical exertion, potentially in challenging conditions.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related field; a Master's degree is preferred.

  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant environmental experience, including fieldwork.

  • Applied knowledge of ecological assessment, environmental impact analysis, environmental due diligence, natural/biological resources management, and habitat conservation planning.

  • Strong technical leader with established stakeholder relationships.

  • Excellent interpersonal communication, oral presentation, and written communication skills.

  • Experience with environmental permitting related to wildlife, bats, and avifauna.

  • Experience with eagle take permitting under BGEPA and the development of ECPs and EITP applications.

  • Ability to review, synthesize, and interpret biological resources information.

  • Strong technical report writing and editing skills.

  • Ability to think critically, strategize, and use a flexible approach to problem-solving.

  • Training in basic wetland delineation (USACE specifications).

  • PWS certification preferred but not required.

  • Knowledge of CWA Sections 401/404 and associated permitting.

  • Experience in leading discussions with federal, state, and local regulators and clients.

  • Experience in wetland and natural resources field activities, technical report writing, and permitting.

  • Ability to prioritize assignments in time-critical situations.

  • Ability to analyze data and draw valid conclusions.

  • Willingness to learn and be adaptable.

  • Willing to work in difficult conditions and often miles from a vehicle, facing physical challenges like off-trail hikes, steep slopes, extreme weather, and biological hazards.

  • Flexible schedule to accommodate travel, sometimes on short notice.

  • Ability to take clear and accurate field notes by hand or on a tablet/smartphone.

  • A pre-employment drug screen in compliance with federal regulations is required, along with a physical if needed.

  • Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record without restrictions.
