The Senior Benefits Pension Specialist provides services to participants of all retirement plans maintained by the Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS). This individual monitors the consolidated plan investment provider (single record keeper) team to ensure that a high level of service is provided to plan participants at all times. The Senior Pension Analyst operates under minimal supervision. S/he conducts presentations and periodic departmental visits on available plans, investments, eligibility, etc.
Roles & Responsibilities:
Promotes processes that result in effective retirement plan enrollments, remittances, reporting and disclosure and investment selection and monitoring.
Acts as the primary organizational representative for employees relating to retirement plans offered. Acts as a primary liaison between MSHS and investment providers to ensure a high level of service is provided to plan participants.
Acts as the primary signatory for withdrawals, hardship distribution requests, loans, transfers and rollovers. Serves as the primary contact regarding employee appeal issues, research and assists with preparation of documentation for the Benefit Committee's review and resolution.
Acts as the primary liaison between MSHS and retirement plan service providers, regarding on-going communications and develops and oversees on-going educational sessions for all MSHS locations and affiliates. Executes actions that help maintain effective administration of participant education regarding the various retirement plans, i.e. monthly enrollment meetings, quarterly information tables, periodic presentations.
Serves as a primary liaison for all communications with MSHS retirement plan service providers and outside consultants on matters relating to the MSHS retirement.
Assists the Finance Department and outside auditors to prepare a comprehensive review and audit of the 403(b) plan. Coordinates the on-going audit of 457 (b) plan with providers. Assist affiliates in their audit of faculty employer contributions.
Monitors on-site third party retirement plan vendors to ensure that a high level of service is continuously provided to MSHS faculty and staff.
Performs related duties as assigned or requested
Bachelor's degree in Business or a related discipline; Advanced financial or financial planning courses of study, i.e. CEBS, are desirable.
7 years' experience with defined contribution plan and health care benefits, with current knowledge on pension industries trends, concepts and products preferred.
Detail oriented. Excellent time management, oral and written communication skills. Multi-level relationship building skills. Knowledge in using analytical approach to problem solving. Ability to work toward team and individual goals.
