The Senior Benefits Pension Specialist provides services to participants of all retirement plans maintained by the Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS). This individual monitors the consolidated plan investment provider (single record keeper) team to ensure that a high level of service is provided to plan participants at all times. The Senior Pension Analyst operates under minimal supervision. S/he conducts presentations and periodic departmental visits on available plans, investments, eligibility, etc.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Promotes processes that result in effective retirement plan enrollments, remittances, reporting and disclosure and investment selection and monitoring.

  • Acts as the primary organizational representative for employees relating to retirement plans offered. Acts as a primary liaison between MSHS and investment providers to ensure a high level of service is provided to plan participants.

  • Acts as the primary signatory for withdrawals, hardship distribution requests, loans, transfers and rollovers. Serves as the primary contact regarding employee appeal issues, research and assists with preparation of documentation for the Benefit Committee's review and resolution.

  • Acts as the primary liaison between MSHS and retirement plan service providers, regarding on-going communications and develops and oversees on-going educational sessions for all MSHS locations and affiliates. Executes actions that help maintain effective administration of participant education regarding the various retirement plans, i.e. monthly enrollment meetings, quarterly information tables, periodic presentations.

  • Serves as a primary liaison for all communications with MSHS retirement plan service providers and outside consultants on matters relating to the MSHS retirement.

  • Assists the Finance Department and outside auditors to prepare a comprehensive review and audit of the 403(b) plan. Coordinates the on-going audit of 457 (b) plan with providers. Assist affiliates in their audit of faculty employer contributions.

  • Monitors on-site third party retirement plan vendors to ensure that a high level of service is continuously provided to MSHS faculty and staff.

  • Performs related duties as assigned or requested

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business or a related discipline; Advanced financial or financial planning courses of study, i.e. CEBS, are desirable.

  • 7 years' experience with defined contribution plan and health care benefits, with current knowledge on pension industries trends, concepts and products preferred.

  • Detail oriented. Excellent time management, oral and written communication skills. Multi-level relationship building skills. Knowledge in using analytical approach to problem solving. Ability to work toward team and individual goals.

Department Name - Benefits Corporate Req # 2670958 Benefits Pension Specialist SSVS ensures regulatory compliance of the Health and Welfare Plan, Defined Contribution and Defined Benefits Pension Plans. Provide recommendations and support to upper management in the areas of plan interpretation, implementation and system design. Drafts all health and welfare SPD's for legal review. Administration of the Long term and Short term disability programs as well as the 403(b) Plans. Roles & Responsibilities: * Prepares the annual IRS 5500 filings for the Health/Welfare and the Pension Plans. Knowledge of the Plan structure and changes thereof for the accuracy of the filings. Responsible for ensuring that each filing has a proper Plan Document and signed amendments to coincide with each filing. * Prepares and coordinates mailings of the Summary Annual Reports (summary of the above 5500 filings) to all applicable employees of all companies. * Composes and prepares Summary Plan Descriptions (SPD) and other informational/educational materials. Works closely with third party marketing department to make the updates to the various SPDs and the update of contact or plan change information on the ADP website during Open Enrollment. * Assists in the administration of the 403(b) Plan: * Interpretation of the Plan Document to provide guidance for the proper system design and implementation of the Plan * Provisions * Trains and supervises temporary employees and permanent staff (Benefits Analyst) regarding the 403(b) plan responsibilities. * Works with senior management and legal counsel to discuss changes to the Plan * Coordinates information regarding the Pharmacist Pension Plan participants and relay to outside actuaries to provide annual benefit statements and the annual Actuarial Valuation Report * Coordinates the payment(s) of the annual contribution to fund the Plan per the valuation prepared by the actuaries. Prepares the payment to the annual Pension Benefit Guarantee Company (PBGC) that acts as an insurance for the participants in case of the termination of the Pension Plan * Participates in the annual audit of the Plan * Meets with Pharmacists who plan to retire * Coordinates necessary information with regard to the benefit eligible population and retiree population for outside actuaries to calculate the yearly expense and liability to Mount Sinai over time for the current year and for future participation (SFAS No. 106 expense). * Administrator of the Long Term and Short Term Disability programs. * Review LTD policy to ensure accuracy reflection of the company internal policies * Work closely with disability carrier for ensure understanding of internal structure to obtain necessary information for the timely processing of claims * Working on internal communication of the process employees should follow to process their claim as well as the affect it may have on employee benefits. * Editor of the Quarterly Benefits Newsletter. * Participates in the bi-weekly description of issue and resolution meetings with ADP (outsource company) service delivery manager, customer service managers, communication managers and billing mangers for resolution of the issues and implementation of new initiatives such as Open Enrollment. * Other duties as assigned Requirements: * Bachelor's degree in HR or related field * PHR/SPHR/CEBS preferred * Must possess excellent written/verbal communication skills and customer service skills.
