University Human Resources is looking for a driven, adaptable, and highly collaborative individual to manage the complex and daily administration of the Stanford Contributory Retirement Plan (SCRP) and the 457(b) Plan. The Senior Benefits Analyst will conduct retirement presentations and counsel faculty and staff on retirement program benefits. Assisting with the Stanford Staff Retirement Annuity Plan (SRAP), our highly skilled Senior Benefits Analyst provides strong analytical and operational support. As a professional resource, our analyst delivers and maintains standardized solutions/services, responding to benefit plan support needs. The Analyst will be the key liaison between retirement vendors and the Director of Retirement Programs.

This position is located at our new Stanford Redwood City campus, Redwood City, California.


Independently manage and administer retirement benefit plans in compliance with federal regulations. Ability to clearly communicate retirement benefits and conduct retirement presentations to staff, faculty and Retirement Programs Investment Committee (RPIC). Maintain vendor relationships and oversee critical time-sensitive financial transactions. Act as an expert resource, deliver and maintain standardized solutions/services and respond to benefit plan support needs.


  • Review of plan compliance; manage and complete compliance tasks; review appeals and make determinations.

  • Contracts management; external vendor interface and management. Meet with carriers and consultants; make independent decisions on plan operations as required.

  • Research and resolve complex plan participant benefit escalations.

  • Financial monitoring and reporting; coordinate information for Fringe budget management; coordinate data gathering for audits; oversight of benefit plan claims funding and premium payment.

  • Perform non-discrimination testing and manage annual plan audits.

  • Benefit plan communication evaluation, creation, review, and delivery.

  • Participate in the benefit plan renewal cycle including benefit plan strategy, financial analysis, decision support, and change management.

    • Other duties may also be assigned


Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree and five years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Advance working knowledge of ERISA, COBRA, Internal Revenue Codes (as they apply to health and welfare plans), and other statues governing employer sponsored benefit plans.

  • Advance working knowledge of accounting functions including budget building and evaluation, employee contribution modeling.

  • Performed non-discrimination testing and manage annual plan audits

  • Reviewed and evaluated QDROs

  • Demonstrated experience with evaluating benefit plan documentation and benefit communication strategies, including composition, review and revision.

  • Working knowledge of Peoplesoft and ability to identify and resolve data discrepancies.

  • Ability to quickly absorb and lean new concepts and new software programs.

  • Knowledge of insurance environment.

  • Strong presentation and public speaking skills.

  • Ability to transition between strategic big-picture and details of day-to-day operations.

  • Intermediate to expert level computer skills such as Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).

Certifications and Licenses:



  • Frequently stand/walk, sitting, use a computer, use a telephone, grasp lightly/fine manipulation.

  • Occasionally twist/bend/stoop/squat, reach/work above shoulders, grasp forcefully, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 20 pounds, writing by hand, sort/file paperwork.

  • Rarely kneel/crawl.

SoE's dean's office seeks a senior budget and financial analyst to join our team of four finance professionals. The analyst will report to the Finance Director and work on a full range of complex financial activities that play a large role in determining key school-wide decisions. This position represents an opportunity to be part of a high-level operational environment and partner with the local unit level to achieve the goals of the school. We are seeking a skilled, diligent and self–motivated individual. The analyst will own and lead several important financial processes. These include leading the development of the school's consolidated budget, leading individual departments and units with the development of their consolidated budgets, developing and maintaining a multi-year school-level financial forecast to assist the dean with long-range planning, and management and forecasting of the dean's financial commitments. The analyst will conduct variance analysis and other reporting and analysis to provide insights into school operations.
