JOB OPPORTUNITY

The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Senior Behavioral Health Clinician in the Health, Housing & Community Services (HHCS) Department. Working in the Mental Health Division, this position provides direct and indirect behavioral health services in outpatient clinics, home settings and with diverse community agencies and groups.

The Senior Behavioral Health Clinician functions as a leader of a multi-disciplinary team to provide a variety of mental health services and programs throughout the community, including prevention and intervention services with a focus on high-risk adults, transitional age youth, children, and families. The Mental Health Division also provides community-based support services including coordination of housing, consumer and family services, and employment or vocational supports.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is:

A master's degree from a recognized school of Social Work, Counseling, Psychiatric Nursing, or other Marriage and Family Therapy eligible discipline, or a doctorate in Psychology, with field placement in a medical, psychiatric, or community mental health setting AND three (3) years of experience in an outpatient clinic, hospital, child guidance clinic, mental health program or family agency which included regular psychiatric consultation.

Other requirements include:

  • Possession of a License as a Clinical Social Worker, Marriage and Family Therapist, or Psychologist, as provided for by California state law.

  • Ability to travel to various locations within and outside of Berkeley to meet program needs and to fulfill the job responsibilities. When driving on City business, incumbents must have a valid California driver's license as well as a satisfactory driving record.

Tests may consist of any combination of written, oral or other exercises or assessment procedures that test content and may include, but are not necessarily limited to, typing, math, reading, writing and analytical skills; problem solving ability; computer and software proficiency, or any other job-related knowledge, skill, ability or qualification. The examination process and dates are subject to change.

The City may, without notice, change or eliminate any assessment component as needs dictate. Applicants passing all examination phases will have their names placed on an employment eligible list that hiring departments will use to conduct final selection interviews.
