We are seeking a highly motivated individual to support our Cell Development R&D team. As a team member, you will help identify performance-limiting defect modes in the solid-state separator to further improve our product performance and reliability. This position is an exciting multi-functional role that sits at the intersection of materials, manufacturing, and data science!

This position is located onsite at our San Jose, CA offices

Responsibilities

  • Design careful DOEs to investigate impact of various defect modes in incoming cell components on unit cell yield and reliability. Identify defect modes with highest RPN.

  • Perform rigorous failure analysis to uncover key features in upstream metrology images that are linked to cell failure.

  • Manage failure analysis technicians and oversee day-to-day lab operations requiring to be physically onsite

  • Organize weekly cell build requests and coordinate electrical testing.

  • Develop novel techniques for electrical testing cells using a high precision Novonix charger. Optimize the test recipe and short detection model.

Required Skills/Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in in Materials Science/Chemical Engineering/Electrical Engineering/Mechanical Engineering/Chemistry/Physics + 5 years of experience. Master's Degree + 3 years of experience or PhD is preferred.

  • Deep understanding of electrochemistry. Familiarity with battery test metrics and failure mechanisms.

  • Experience with managing technicians and lab operations

  • Knowledge of safe laboratory practices, especially in handling chemicals

  • Strong data analysis and programming background, especially in JMP and Python

  • Excellent communication skills. Ability to collaborate with colleagues from various disciplines through clear and concise reports and presentations.

  • Proven track record of driving projects to completion with little oversight.

Preferred Skills/Experience:

  • Solid foundation in statistics.

  • Knowledge of statistical data analysis concepts including DOEs, statistical power analysis, confidence intervals, normality testing, ANOVA, curve fitting, classification, and regression.

  • Expertise in physical analysis such as FIB and microCT including both sample preparation and data analysis

Compensation & Benefits: Salary range for this role is $123,700- $173,200, but a salary will be determined by the candidate's experience and educational background. QuantumScape also offers an annual bonus and a generous RSU/Equity package as part of its compensation plan. In addition, we do offer a tremendous benefits plan including employee paid health care, Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP), and other exciting perks.
