General Description of the Job

The Senior Banner Financial Aid Systems Analyst will be responsible for performing specific tasks related to development and/or maintenance of the Office of Financial Aid Banner Financial Aid module. They will have a broad understanding of the Financial Aid life cycle and how it relates to system design and functionality, as well as how each system interacts with other institutional systems and third-party systems.

They should be cognizant of all the various functions of the Financial Aid module and work towards continuous improvement of the life cycle to reduce errors, exceptions and redundancy. He/she will take a lead role in the development of other less experienced Analysts and provide constructive feedback for their professional development and growth within the organization.

Essential Functions

The following are the functions essential to performing this job.
1.Management and maintenance of all aspects of Banner system Financial Aid module daily functions; including inbound and outbound processes in relation to Federal Student Aid (FSA) reporting.
2.Responsible for identifying and analyzing business processes that can be performed more efficiently, assist in system-wide testing of software and financial aid processes and coordinate the documentation of financial aid processes and procedures.
3.Perform annual modifications of configurable values into Banner Financial Aid and other systems as needed.
4.Create and maintain application support documentation including functional, technical and business requirements, business process workflows, and training materials.
5.Assist in all aspects of systems testing by developing multiple student scenarios to ensure the reliability of all delivered Banner regulatory software releases, upgrades and patches; changes to the Oracle databases supporting Banner; new financial aid processes; and all testing associated with implementing new aid year software.
6.Serve as a resource to Office of Financial Aid staff by reviewing new and existing Title IV program requirements and implementing processes to ensure program compliance.
7.Provide incident and problem resolution to support end users by researching and troubleshooting issues, implementing solutions, creating knowledge base articles, and documenting service desk requests.
8.Design, develop, test, debug and implement new computer programs to query and/or update the financial aid database by using SQL, PL/SQL and Microsoft Access. This requires knowledge of the financial aid, accounts receivable and student information modules of the University's integrated student information system and discussion of the desired outcomes with the user.
9.Responsible for pulling, cleaning, and formatting large amounts of data from multiple sources for both regularly recurring and ad-hoc analyses.
10. Collaborates with management to assist in the design and implementation of processes and procedures keeping quality and performance at the forefront and making better use of technologies to drive efficiencies and improve service.
11. Supports Policy by ensuring system compliance with Federal, State and Institutional regulations.
12. Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Specific Area Functions

The Senior Banner Financial Aid Systems Analyst will be assigned the following tasks on a daily basis.
1.The Senior Banner Financial Aid Systems Analyst, reporting to the Executive Director, will manage operations of all financial aid technology and act as a liaison with Technical Services for the Financial Aid area.
2.Assist in oversight of the technical aspects of Banner, Atomic, Campus Logic, ELM and federal software.
3.Under general direction, provides and recommends solutions in using information systems, applications, ERP systems, and other related systems in improving services offered by the College using systems and technology.
4.The position serves as the technical expert in the College's ERP system and other related systems

Other Functions

Individuals in this job may be assigned one or more of the following tasks on a rotating or as-needed basis.
1.Work diplomatically with other teams, such as Information Technology Services, Institutional Research, Banner stakeholders, and others to ensure validity and integrity of data
2.On an occasional basis, travel to an off-campus meeting site to attend institutional workshops
3.Provide support to other strategic enrollment departments, as needed.
4.Required to work some evenings and weekends.
5.If assigned, serve on university committees and implementation teams in support of university initiatives

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The individual in this job must possess these skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that they can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
1.Working knowledge of relational database design, optimization, and troubleshooting
2.Advanced skills in the use of MS Access and MS Excel.
3.Experience in database administration / report writing tools such as Argos Reporting.
4.Ability to convert non-technical data requests into programming code, and ability to communicate and explain difficult technical terms.
5.Experience with PL/SQL programming.
6.Ability to define and solve logical problems for highly technical applications
7.Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical clients.
8.Ability to lead activities on structured team development projects.

Qualification Standards
1.Education: Bachelor's degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Information Systems, Data Science, Business Administration or related field, Master's preferred.
2.Experience working with Banner Financial Aid.
3.Successful experience: Five years of experience in college or university financial aid administration and systems management experience with a highly automated financial aid management system is required. Application of Title IV funding; application of financial aid packaging; computer proficiency; organizational skills; experience working with a student/business information system and database.
4.Other: Professional demeanor and ability to work effectively with various constituencies including potential/incoming students and their families, current students and their families, faculty, administrators, and the public.
5.This job requires detailed analysis, interpretive thinking and the ability to develop innovative solutions to meet current business needs and anticipate future changes. Individual needs to be able to prioritize competing demands, manage multiple projects and concurrent tasks, and adapt to changing priorities.
6.Must be results driven and committed to meeting set deadlines for established deliverables. Must be capable of working with business and technical team members at all levels of the organization.
7.Detailed and process oriented with demonstrated capabilities in business process design, modeling and requirements analysis; ability to translate into detailed system requirements specifications.
8.Experience with systems development lifecycle and system management processes, including business requirements, design, and configuration, and user acceptance testing.
9.Proficient with understanding and analyzing business needs, designing solutions based on needs, and articulating business impacts.

Performance Standards

The criteria for evaluation in this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
1.Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required; ability to discuss aid/full pay concerns with students
2.Demonstrate knowledge of the DSU Fundamentals.
3.Ability to troubleshoot common hardware and software problems.
4.Demonstrate ability to resolve problems timely and effectively.
