We are looking for a Senior Automation Engineer in our Carlsbad, CA office. This person will be leading projects developing manufacturing automation equipment from concept/prototyping to deployment in Molex opto-Electronic products production line. This person will be traveling to our manufacturing plant in Guadalajara regularly.

What You Will Do

  • Develop manufacturing automation equipment from concept, prototyping to deployment in production line

  • Work with process and mechanical engineers and process engineers to develop or support equipment control from prototype to manufacturing

  • Lead technicians on machine development and build activities

  • Maintain and enhance existing control code

  • Document, analyze and report on system testing results

  • Identify and solve problems in machine setup and operation

  • Ensure verification testing is comprehensive with respect to system-level requirements

  • Translate system specification and requirements into system verification strategies, equipment prove out plans and system performance testing

  • Work with both mechanical and electrical engineers to define programming objective

  • Meet project objectives and ensuring system verification activities are conducted with timeliness, thoroughness and accuracy

  • Communicate all aspects of risks that may develop, issues that may arise or ideas on opportunities for improvement

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • At least 5 years of automation equipment development experience

  • Bachelors in mechanical or computer science engineering or related engineering discipline

  • Experience in developing, supporting automation equipment for production environment

  • Experience with machine motion control, vision control and their related language programming

  • Experience with equipment setup, acceptance test, troubleshooting and support

  • Experience with electronics or optical manufacturing assembly process

  • Familiarity with equipment control panel and pneumatic systems (eg. Power supply, IO, SMC)

  • Understanding of common communication bus standards such as RS232, Ethernet and Fiber Channel

  • Hands-on experience with equipment and intensive equipment trouble-shooting experience

  • Understand lean manufacturing principle, quality control and continuous improvement

  • Willing to travel domestically and internationally to support manufacturing site

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Experience with LabVIEW or python programming

  • Experience with Cognex camera

  • Experience with SolidWorks and fixture design

  • Experience with opto-electronics assembly process

  • Use statistic software, like JMP/Minitab to analyze equipment performance

For this role, we anticipate paying $90,000 - $160,000 per year. This role is eligible for variable pay, issued as a monetary bonus or in another form.
