A Day in Your Life at MKS:

As a Senior Automation Engineer (Align and Attach), you will partner with a cross-functional team to lead MKS on its journey to further automate the alignment and attachment of complex opto-mechanical assemblies. Our team is building the foundation for an automated future. In this exciting, fast paced role you will report to the Director of Automation Engineering.

You Will Make an Impact By:

  • Developing the control software and interfaces to robots, instruments and devices.

  • Working with design and development engineers to promote automation early on, to verify and validate the design during the conceptual and prototyping phases, and to implement these designs into automated volume production.

  • Developing, inventing and implementing control algorithms to automate align, attach, and testing of optomechanical assemblies.

  • Participating in the end-to-end development lifecycle and find/propose ways to optimize manufacturability through automation.

  • Generating process flows and diagrams so that the automated steps are easily understood and safely handled.

  • Adapting creative concepts with hands-on work, using data from results to iterate and optimize solutions.

Skills You Bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Physics, Software, Automation Engineering, or related Engineering field.

  • Robotics industry knowledge and familiarity

AND

  • 3+ years of experience developing and writing software controls for robotics applications with demonstrated achievements controlling complex physical systems (requiring mathematical modeling), Python preferred

Or

  • An advanced Engineering degree with 1 + year writing software controls for robotics applications or complex physical system controls (requiring mathematical constraints and controls) (school experience may be considered)

Preferred Skills:

  • Master's or PhD in Mechanical, Automation Engineering, or related Engineering field.

  • Experience with utilizing various frameworks to interface and control various robots, instruments and devices strongly preferred.

  • ROS, MoveIt and/or other simulation and path planning frameworks strongly preferred.

  • Experience with automated:

  • Pick and place of optical components using motorized stages/actuators and machine vision.

  • Active alignment of optical components using motorized stages/actuators and laser metrology/image processing feedback.

  • Experience with Python and C++ as well as other higher level software tools and frameworks.

  • Experience working with fiber optics and lasers, including diode lasers, solid-state lasers, and fiber lasers, from the UV to the NIR spectrum.

  • Experience with 3D CAD modeling (Solidworks…)

  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills coupled with strong analytical skills.

Compensation and Benefits:

Salary Pay Range: $90,200.00 to $167,400 per year. This range is a good faith estimate of the expected salary range for this position, based on a wide range of factors including qualifications, experience and training, operational and business needs and other considerations permitted by law.  At MKS, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for the role.

Bonus: This position is eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, in an amount to be determined by MKS [or as applicable].
