Senior Auditor

Description

This position is accountable for conducting complex, non-routine high risk audits, consulting services, investigative services, or other projects anywhere within the Southern Company in accordance with audit policies, standards, and practices and IIA standards. These areas often have no history and may reflect emerging risk areas. This position is expected to independently plan projects, execute projects and deliver project results and seek input and support from management, primarily during planning, addressing findings or sensitive matters and when results are communicated. The position is responsible for: 1) effectively leading audit teams; 2) developing and assisting less experienced auditors; and 3) providing performance and developmental feedback to management on staff.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education and Certifications:

  • A bachelor's degree in a job related field is required

  • Progress toward related certifications is strongly desired (CIA, CPA, CFE)

Experience:

  • Prior internal auditing experience in leading projects, including planning, fieldwork, reporting, and administration, while meeting all required IIA quality requirements; or significant experience in a related field or industry, including, for example, monitoring, self-assessments, or quality standards

  • Prior experience in supervising the project work of others is desired

  • In lieu of the above, and for developmental purposes, prior experience, project or otherwise, in a related technical area may substitute for internal auditing experience

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Internal Auditing skills that are applied to diverse situations, including integration with information systems auditing

  • Demonstrated knowledge of internal controls, governance models, anti-fraud programs, and risk management

  • Knowledge of the electric utility industry and assigned technical areas

  • A working knowledge of data analytics and its application to audit planning and execution

  • Strong skills in the following areas:

  • Logical thinking and analytical skills,

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Interpersonal skills

  • Project management skills

  • Supervisory skills

  • Teamwork

  • Ability to manage multiple audits and/or consulting projects with required quality is essential

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Applies excellent business acumen, including audit and analytical skills, in all aspects of the job

  • Focuses on understanding the business and using that knowledge to assist in identifying and monitoring a variety of strategic, financial, operational and compliance risks

  • Teams effectively across the internal audit department, including knowledge sharing

  • Collaborates with other auditors on individual assignments or departmental initiatives

  • Builds and sustains relationships with audit clients across all levels of the company

  • Tracks and monitors audit hours and other resources to assist in meeting departmental goals and metrics

  • Appropriately alerts internal audit management of challenges in meeting audit goals or objectives

  • Participates in appropriate external organizations to obtain personal and professional training and development and to identify and share leading practices within the organization
