Job Duties:

Primary Purpose of Position:

Responsible for providing legal advice and assistance pertaining to government contracts, commercial contracts, data rights, government cost accounting, regulatory, export compliance and other matters within Ball Aerospace & Technologies Corp. ("Ball Aerospace"), as directed by the Assistant General Counsel, Aerospace & Technologies.

Essential Functions:

  • Provides professional and timely legal advice and assistance to Ball Aerospace personnel and management in connection with government contracting, data rights, government cost accounting, regulatory, export compliance matters, and other aerospace matters. Maintains expertise in government contracting and export control laws and regulations. Performs general and complex commercial legal work from time to time.

  • Provides professional and timely legal advice and assistance to various Ball Aerospace departments and functions including Contracts, Supply Chain, Export, Compliance, Accounting, Compliance, Human Resources, Program Security, IT, and Programs.

  • Prepares, reviews, and/or assists Ball Aerospace personnel in negotiating standard to complex contracts, subcontracts, non-disclosure agreements, teaming agreements and other Ball Aerospace agreements.

  • Supports Ball Aerospace's Export Department with export compliance matters, export classification determinations, and the drafting, review, and approval of export licenses and agreements.

  • Prepares and conducts training on government contracting and export compliance related topics.

  • Prepares and reviews legal correspondence, forms and agreements.

  • Engages, supervises and assists outside attorneys in litigation and other complex matters; an efficient and effective project manager and lawyer responsible for planning and judiciously spending company financial resources.

  • Assists internal clients or customers in their efforts to generate Economic Value Add.

  • Takes personal responsibility for quality and timeliness of work and endeavors to continuously improve services and relationships with clients.

  • Maintains highest standards of integrity, professionalism, and personal ethical behavior and individual responsibility to clients and customers.

  • Assists Ball Aerospace in maintaining compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

  • Establishes and maintains effective work relationships within the department, business units, functions, programs, export, and the company. Ability to handle stress and to interact with others so as to establish and maintain a positive and productive work environment and minimize personal conflicts.

  • While the regular working cycle of this position is usually five days (Monday-Friday), this job may include working weekends (Saturday and Sunday) and working hours may vary as specified by management or projects.

Position Requirements:

  • Broad training in a related field usually acquired through 0 high school; 0 college or 1 graduate degree level education or work-related experience (L.L.B. or J.D.)

  • Job related experience for 8 year(s) minimum in the field of government contract law

  • Certifications/Licenses/Other: Admission to Colorado State Bar (by examination or motion or pursuant to C.R.C.P. Rule 222)

  • Substantive knowledge of Federal Acquisition Regulation ("FAR"), and Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement ("DFARS")

  • Working knowledge of the following areas:

  • International Traffic in Arms Regulations ("ITAR") and Export Administration Regulations ("EAR") preferred

  • FAR Cost Principles and Cost Accounting Standards ("CAS") preferred

  • Some litigation experience preferred

  • Engineering/Technical degree preferred

  • Some commercial law experience preferred

  • Department of Defense Secret/Top Secret clearance preferred

  • Must have prepared complex legal documents and persuasive legal documents

  • 15% of travel
