Job Description

Kite, a Gilead Company, is a biopharmaceutical company focused on the development and commercialization of novel cancer immunotherapy products designed to harness the power of a patient's own immune system to selectively target and kill cancer cells. We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join us as an Senior Associate, Quality Control Microbiology to work with the Quality Control team in our new research and clinical production facility located in Gaithersburg, Maryland. This facility will focus on the new challenging field of fully personalized T cell neoantigen reactive therapy for solid tumors using individual patient neoantigen TCRs.

Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

  • Perform environmental monitoring of cleanrooms

  • Collect water samples

  • Perform microbiological assays such as Gram Stain, Endotoxin, Sterility, Microbial Identification, Growth Promotion, Bioburden and Plate Reading

  • Perform visual inspection of final product

  • Data entry and trend data

  • Develop, revise and review SOP's

  • Conduct investigations regarding out of specifications (OOS) results and address and manage deviations related to micro procedures

  • Assist in training staff on methods

  • Routine maintenance of lab equipment and lab spaces

  • Perform other duties as required


  • Bachelor's degree in Microbiology preferred with a minimum of 3 years of Microbiology lab/Environmental Monitoring experience

  • Experience in the application of microbiological techniques such as air monitoring, water testing, surface monitoring, genus and species identification of various microbes

  • Experience in aseptic techniques and clean room operations

  • Ability to gown for entry into Aseptic core and supporting areas, and lift approximately 25 lbs.

  • Ability to pass vision exam for visual inspection

  • Knowledge of GMP, SOPs and quality control processes

  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Power Point and other applications

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills are essential in this collaborative work environment

  • Comfortable in a fast-paced small company environment with minimal direction and able to adjust workload based upon changing priorities

  • Ability to be flexible with schedule, and work overtime as needed

We are seeking a Quality Control Analyst (Contract) to join our Quality Control team in Gaithersburg, MD. Qualified individuals will be responsible for performing all microbiology assays. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: * Performs routine environmental monitoring of GMP manufacturing suite * Performs facility water sampling * Performs TOC, conductivity, endotoxin and bioburden testing * Performs sampling and analytical testing of raw materials * Performs media qualification testing * Receives, distributes, tracks and coordinates cGMP samples for testing * Prepares buffers and reagents * Keeps accurate testing records and assures that laboratory equipment has been calibrated, standardized, and monitored as appropriate * Logs and maintains all references and standards used for testing * Assists in the writing, reviewing, and editing of standard operating procedures Minimum Requirements * Bachelor's degree in biological science. Microbiology and/or virology experience a plus * 0-2 years' experience in pharmaceutical, biologics, and/or vaccine manufacturing. * Knowledge and expertise in principles and practices of current Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs). * Knowledgeable in FDA regulations regarding the manufacturing of biologicals. * Good aseptic technique is essential for this position. * Microbiology and Environmental monitoring experience preferred * Proficient in Windows-based software to include Excel and Word.
