Reporting to the Provost, the Senior Associate Provost of Institutional Research and Strategic Analysis leads the University's efforts to gather, evaluate and analyze institutional data in support of the University's planning, assessment, enrollment projections and strategic decision-making. The Institutional Research and Strategic Analysis (IRSA) department provides the means to help stakeholders and leaders make data-driven decisions to benefit the Hofstra community. The incumbent oversees and is responsible for the Office of Institutional Research and Strategic Analysis, including aligning the office's goals with the University's institutional priorities, supervising staff, ensuring accurate and timely ongoing research, responsible data stewardship, thorough institutional assessment, and enabling data informed decision-making by the leadership and various units of the University.

The Senior Associate Provost of Institutional Research and Strategic Analysis (IRSA) works closely with the President, the Provost and the Senior Vice President for Student Enrollment, Engagement, and Success, as well as with Deans, Faculty and University Leadership, to be a strategic partner in establishing University-wide priorities for IRSA and to support data provisioning and analysis. In addition to scheduled reporting of data metrics and analytics, the incumbent is responsible for timely response to urgent data needs and requests.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provides support and analysis for planning recommendations to the President, Provost, and other senior administration and constituencies to support the University's long and short-term strategic goals.

  • Provides support and analysis for planning recommendations to the Senior Vice President for Student Enrollment, Engagement, and Success and leads the department's support of enrollment management strategy, including projections, and modeling, to optimally leverage resources.

  • Identifies informational needs by reviewing data requests, working with stakeholders to formulate research questions which support desired outcomes.

  • Responsible for supporting initiatives to improve data standards and policies, as well as compliance and accessibility across the entire institution.

  • Partners with units across the university to provide data in support of retention initiatives.

  • Oversees and manages the staff of the Office Institutional Research and Strategic Analysis.

  • Provides leadership for the office's work in alignment with institutional goals. Ensures that the staff responds to the data needs of the University in order to inform critical decision making.

  • Works closely with the Provost and the Faculty, developing, implementing, and managing practices for the assessment of student learning outcomes, general education goals, and pedagogic methods.

  • Determines priorities for analytical exercises for each academic year in consultation with the Provost and other academic areas; work with office heads to determine and support the data and reporting needs of various departments and programs.

  • Provides accurate and timely data reporting compliance surveys (NYSED, IPEDS, NCAA, etc.) as well as external ranking surveys, and college guidebook submissions (MSA, Fact Book, Princeton Review, College Board, etc.).

  • Undertakes, advises, and manages data analysis and assessment in support of University departments and Committees, and the strategic initiatives of the President, Provost, and senior staff.

  • Coordinates data gathering from students, administrative offices, faculty, staff, and alumni throughout the University through the application and development of surveys and related tools.

  • Facilitates the collection and archiving of college data, figures, and reports, including those administered on behalf of the government and other external agencies.

  • Supports and helps lead the recurring Middle States Re-Accreditation Review processes and reporting as well as other school and program accreditations.

  • Partners with the information technology department to develop policies and procedures for the sharing of data and data storage.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in relevant discipline required.

  • Minimum 6-8 years of experience in institutional research and assessment in higher education.

  • Prior senior management/supervisor experience or relevant departmental or program leadership.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with all stakeholders including senior leadership.

  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and work collaboratively with various academic and administrative partners.

  • Experience with institutional accreditation.

  • Excellent statistical and analytical skills with an ability to explain complex data analysis to a diverse range of constituents.

  • Prior experience with Tableau, SQL, PowerBI and data visualization tools.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, SPSS, SAS and other similar computer programs and query tools.

  • Excellent judgment, discretion, accuracy, and attention to detail.

  • Ability to work well independently or as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in a discipline of statistical focus, strongly preferred.

Salary/Salary Range $160,000 - $190,000

Hofstra University provides the above salary* as a good faith estimate of the starting pay range which considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience and education.   • Salary ranges indicated for positions covered under a Collective Bargaining Agreement are in accordance with the CBA.
