Senior Associate, Income Tax
I. Job Summary | Major goals and objectives.
Support 10-member Tax Team in all areas of Corporate Tax Administration, including federal income tax, international tax, and state tax - compliance, audit support, ASC740 support and tax planning initiatives.
II. Essential Job Functions
Accountabilities, Actions and Expected Measurable Results
Preparation of Federal Income Tax Compliance Workpapers
Preparation of consolidated federal income tax return - including preparation of federal workpapers for book/tax differences and assessment of related tax risks and disclosures.
Preparation of State & Local Income Tax Compliance Workpapers
Preparation of consolidated, combines and separate company state & local income tax returns - including preparation of state & local workpapers for book/tax and federal/state differences and assessment of related tax risks and disclosures.
Support ASC740 Accounting for Income Taxes (Financial Reporting)
Support preparation of annual (10K) and quarterly (10Q) ASC740 financial reporting workpapers for income taxes, including SOX controls.
Support federal, state & international tax audits & planning initiatives.
Support income tax audits. Support tax planning initiatives. Monitor tax legislation and compliance developments.
Support Department and Interdepartmental Projects and Initiatives
Involvement in overall administration and initiatives of the Corporate Tax Department. Serve as project coordinator for major tax issues or other related assignments as directed.
Network with Meredith Operations, Corporate & Governmental Affairs; Media Industry & Tax Community
Participate in industry and taxation networking groups include, among others: Tax Executives Institute, Magazine Publishers of America, Media Industry Tax Group, Council on State Taxation, Iowa Taxpayers Association and Polk-Des Moines Taxpayers' Association. Provide support to Meredith Government Relations in analysis and strategic response to proposed and pending legislation on Federal, state, and local levels.

Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of ASC740 accounting for income taxes, federal and multi-state income tax reporting, and tax examinations.
Understanding of federal & state tax code, regulations, and tax authority administration.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong math and computing skills.
Self-motivation and guidance, organization, attention to detail and accuracy, recognition of importance and integration of tax function.
Ability to thrive in a team environment.
Knowledge of international tax a plus.
Familiarity with tax provision/return software (preferably CorpTax).
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel; Access Database; Word; PowerPoint).
Familiarity with Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) Controls.
