The Senior Applications Engineer is a critical technical resource for the business development/sales team and is responsible for actively driving and managing the technology evaluation stage of the sales process. The Senior Applications Engineer identifies and provides reliable solutions for all technical issues and manages the work of junior engineers.
Maintain expert level knowledge of products and applications
Supervise the work of junior engineering team
Checks technical output from the team reliably and in a timely manner, prior to issue to internal and external shareholders/customers.
Review technical requirements of sales leads and customer inquiries
Discuss technical requirements with potential customers to understand their needs
Generates mechanical engineering designs according to mechanical engineering design principles, materials properties when put under temperature/pressure loading
Work with in-house technical and manufacturing resources to devise and execute workable technical solutions
Work with customer technical staff to resolve discrepancies
Develop proposal specifications and production manufacturing level drawings
Develop cost estimates and project plans
Manage project work: product design, prototyping and testing
Write technical reports and present results to customers
Conduct experimental testing and analyze heat transfer/pressure drop data using Excel or other software, in order to develop empirical models and provide recommendations to customers
Design and fabricate test set-ups and simulations using software e.g. CFD, FEA to guide approach
Utilize in-depth technical and cross functional understanding of the mechanical, chemical and manufacturing issues associated with the company's materials and technologies, so as to recommend creative and cost-effective solutions, improve customer interfaces and perform technical analysis
Carry out any other duties which are within the employee's skills and abilities whenever reasonably instructed
Are you the ideal candidate?
Master's degree in mechanical engineering
5 years of experience as an Applications Engineer or similar technical role in industry
Experience leading/managing a team desirable
Theoretical and computational modelling and analysis background
Experience in Solidworks, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point
Some familiarity of basic convection heat exchange, thermodynamics, and fluids modeling formulas is required
Background in product and prototype design
Ability to perform technical analysis using mechanical engineering principles and rules
Experience in sales/marketing desirable
Calculations including stress-strain, creep, heat transfer, pressure drop
Advanced computer skills ranging from 3-D modelling, FEA
Communication and technical writing skills
Ability to develop and recommend creative, cost-effective solutions
Project team responsibilities desirable
Creative technical imagination desirable
