GENERAL FUNCTION:

This is a combined senior investment banking analyst and coverage role, serving Fifth Third relationships with customized investment banking and other capital markets solutions. Qualified candidates will continue building their analytical capabilities on a solid, pre-existing foundation of deal experience, and also grow into a business development role earlier than the typical investment banking analyst or associate.

Leverages the experience gained as Investment Banking Analyst or similar background to provide a deep understanding and knowledge of corporate finance, with the ability to perform a wide range of complex analytical, valuation and financial modeling analyses with minimal supervision.

Requires the ability to not only move beyond the initial processing of information, but to "connect the dots" by applying the information towards specific client needs. Assumes responsibility for driving the pitch origination, as well as supporting the originations coverage activities along with the senior team members. Provides oversight, training and development of junior analysts across the group. Exhibits strong work ethic and is proactive in assuming additional responsibilities. Excels in providing detail-oriented analytical support, and gains product and market knowledge required for development into an Associate role.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Independently create proprietary and sophisticated analytics and insights covering corporate finance subject matters such as valuation, optimal capital structure, WACC analysis, debt capacity and refunding analysis, strategic alternatives, and accretion/dilution, among other areas aligned with clients' strategic objectives

  • Apply in-depth knowledge of the concepts of accounting, corporate finance, capital markets and credit needed to provide expert analytical support

  • Build and understand complex company financial models and independently analyze performance and credit trends to provide recommendations supporting capital markets opportunities

  • Exhibit high attention to detail and discipline to check work to produce error free and properly formatted work on a consistent basis with minimal oversight

  • Proactively and independently develop high quality pitch materials that effectively address clients' strategic opportunities and deliver to senior bankers in complete or near complete form

  • Contribute to the development of proprietary content and analysis providing bankers and clients with insights into market, industry and product trends

  • Support the detailed reporting in CRM to effectively track opportunities and team activity

  • Assist in direct coverage and support of Fifth Third middle market bankers, customers and prospects

  • Demonstrate ability to accommodate multiple projects and tasks under client driven deadlines and communicate effectively on project status with team members

  • Develop good working relationships with peers and seniors in Capital Markets and the rest of the organization

  • Take on added responsibility to train, develop and mentor junior bankers and provide feedback in a constructive manner

  • Achieve business goals while demonstrating the bank's core values and risk behaviors

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • None

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • 1-3 years of investment banking, capital markets, corporate finance, or corporate banking coverage experience

  • Bachelor's degree required; degree in Finance or Accounting and 3.5 GPA preferred

  • Exhibit strong work ethic, passion for excellence, and high energy while conducting oneself in a professional manner

  • Ability to excel in both team and self-directing settings

  • Excellent presentation skills, both oral and written, including good working knowledge of PowerPoint

  • Strong analytical skills and good working knowledge of financial modeling in Excel

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to influence others

  • Ability to travel 2-4 days per month

  • Series 79 and Series 63 license

  • Inclination towards business development, origination, or coverage career track (however, the position may allow for a lateral transfer to a traditional analyst or associate role in the future)
