Work individually and with other PIL team members to drive continuous improvement in aerospace design and manufacturing. Apply scientific theory and successfully exercise problem solving judgment while utilizing our laboratory's destructive and non-destructive testing (NDT) capabilities including but not limited to:*
  • Variable Pressure Scanning Electron Microscope * Energy Dispersive X-Ray Spectrometer (EDX)* X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) Spectrometer * Fourier Transform Infrared & RAMAN Spectrometer (FTIR)* Real-time Micro-focus X-ray / Digital Radiography (DR)* Computed Tomography X-ray Imaging (CT)* Optical Microscopy / Digital Imaging / Digital Microscope * Ultrasonic-Based Thickness Testing * Optical Coordinate Measuring System * Material Microstructure Interpretation & Fracture Analysis * Collaborate with other experienced metallurgical, electrical and NDT staff. * Determine failure root cause(s) and provide recommendations to key stakeholders. * Capture investigation results and recommendations in high quality engineering reports. * Provide guidance and expertise to help engineers design and produce high quality, highly reliable aerospace sensors and systems.What You Will Learn: * Relentless root cause corrective action techniques * Effective use of advanced failure analysis equipment * Opportunity to develop deep team collaboration skills with peers who may have different expertise in different disciplines * High quality report writing to be catered to different audiencesQualifications You Must Have:* 1+ year of experience with Destructive and/or Non-Destructive testing techniques in Professional work setting or lab work environment * Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field or in absence of a degree, 6 years of relevant experience* U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or granted refugee or asylee status) as defined here: https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-22/chapter-I/subchapter-M/part-120/subpart-C/section-120.62Qualifications We Prefer: * Highly prefer a degree in Material Science * Problems solver with a solid background in the electrical, chemical, metallurgical, mechanical, and physical sciences. * High energy, positive attitude, attention to detail, inventive- In-depth failure analysis is a research-based profession with the added factor of fast paced, urgent customer support (internal and external). * Hands on experience with destructive analysis tools and methods * Excellent communication skills- Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills to communicate evidence supporting root cause of product failure to all concerned parties. * Self-motivated, persistence, inquisitive- Failure Analysis requires tenacious, independent investigation that does not follow a predetermined path or outcome. The problem and the path to arrive at the solution are unknown when the process begins. * Experience and Longevity- This person will act as a technical expert in investigations to determine the physical and chemical mechanisms of root cause. * Responsible Laboratory Management Skills- Unyielding attention to lab safety protocols.
