Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems has an opening for a Senior Airframe Mechanic to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in El Segundo, CA.
Responsible for supporting the F/A-18 Production Line.
Requires the assembly and installation of parts and assemblies of production aircraft.
Responsible to ascertain correct location, identify the relationship of parts using bench templates and jigs to hold fixtures.
Work functions to be performed following both verbal and written instructions and procedures.
Requires the layout, assembly, installation, and rework of aircraft parts, assemblies and skins including necessary incidental fabrication of pre-production, development or production aircraft.
Determine methods and sequence of structural assembly, installation, repair, rework, and modification operations on pre-production aircraft.
Lays out, locates, fits, trims, assembles, and installs parts assemblies and skins where dimensions are critical and fitting is to exacting tolerance.
Drill, countersink and rivet exterior skin panels where skin quality is critical. Works from all types of complex blueprints, E.O.'s and production illustrations is often required to work without adequate tooling or on jobs where engineering and tooling information is incomplete.
Completes any or all structural rework/repair, squawks, E.O.'s and part shortages.
May be required to work in other fields incidental to, and in connection with, completion of assignment.
May work with the assistance of lower classified employees; may assist higher classified workers on occasion.
Direct and train other employees as assigned.
Perform work of the level described herein, and interpret complex blueprints and use arithmetic involving decimals and fractions.
May monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures.
Must be able to utilize computer based systems to perform duties
High School Diploma or GED
Ability to work in a variety of physical conditions
Ability to work any shift or schedule
4 years of experience in mechanical environment
Airframe Program Certificate from Spartan College
Experience reading blueprints
8 years of mechanical experience
Ability to measure parts with micrometers and/or calipers to verify dimensions.
Ability to utilize computer based systems to perform duties
