Position Summary:
The Senior Aircraft Systems Engineer reports to the Manager Aircraft Systems Engineering and is responsible for technical accuracy and reliability of aircraft mechanical systems/components.
Essential Responsibilities:
Review and action Airworthiness Directives (AD's) so as to ensure compliance with applicable regulations
Verify that the maintenance program is amended to reflect adherence to technical requirements
Review Service Bulletins, Service Letters, all Operator Letters, etc. for applicability and system reliability and/or economic benefits
Take action as required to incorporate applicable changes that are determined to provide benefits in accordance with airline/departmental objectives and management directives
Responsible for the understanding, periodic review, implementation, update, and currency of aircraft systems and related components portion of the Maintenance Program
Conduct root cause analysis for aircraft systems and related component problems which may cause aircraft delays, cancellations, substantial expenditures in manpower or materials, or interruptions in maintenance operations and initiates the action required to remedy any undesirable condition(s) detected
Develop technical data required for modifications/repairs of aircraft systems and related components
Obtains regulatory approval for modifications/repairs performed on JetBlue aircraft systems and components
Initiate the actions required to ensure that source documents affected by engineering actions are updated and reflect current data, configuration, and accuracy
Develop customized procedures and special criteria for repairs, modifications, inspections, servicing, and other maintenance actions which are not adequately addressed in existing manuals
Prepares engineering documents such as Engineering Orders (EO's) and Engineering Authorizations (EA's) to provide technical dispositions for repairs, modifications, inspection or other maintenance actions on aircraft systems and components, which provide benefits in accordance with airline/departmental objectives
Evaluate new methods, materials and equipment, which may provide cost benefits, and takes action to incorporate justified changes
Establish build specifications for aircraft systems/components
Develops engineering procedures, standards and process specifications to comply with manufacturer/vendors Service Bulletins, Airworthiness Directives and other FAA requirements
Coordinates engineering functions with regulatory agencies as required for approval for major repairs and alterations including the completion and forwarding of documents to support such approvals
Provides technical assistance and troubleshooting support to various departments in support of the day-to-day operation
Assists the Manager with continued development of the Systems Engineering processes
Assists the Manager with the day-to-day management and control of the Systems Department
Provides operational off-hours on-call support for Line Maintenance and Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MROs)
Assists with training / mentoring less experienced Systems Engineers
Other duties as assigned
Minimum Experience and Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with a background in aircraft systems, including but not limited to, Air Conditioning, Fire Detection, Flight Controls, Fuel, Hydraulics, Ice and Rain Protection, Landing Gear, Oxygen, Pneumatics, Water and Waste, Nitrogen Generation Systems. In lieu of this education requirement, must have a Bachelor's degree in another Engineering field and an Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) Technician Certificate, OR must have an Associate's Degree in a technical field, an A&P Technician Certificate, and five (5) years of A&P Technician experience
Five (5) years of Engineering or technical experience
Background in troubleshooting aircraft systems
Working knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR's) governing aircraft certification and maintenance
Flexible work schedule required including shift, weekend, and holidays
Able to read, write, and speak English fluently
Available for occasional overnight travel (20%)
Must be able to acquire and maintain a valid Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) Badge
Must pass a pre-employment drug test
Must be legally eligible to work in the country in which the position is located
Authorization to work in the US is required. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship
Preferred Experience and Qualifications:
Eight (8) years of Engineering or technical experience
Airbus/Embraer experience
Valid Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airframe and Powerplant Certificate
Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite and Project
Previous experience in planning, implementing and administering engineering programs and projects
Able to communicate technical issues in an assertive and tactful manner
Project management skills
Leadership Skills
Working knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR's) governing aircraft certification and maintenance
Understanding of Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) requirements
Designated Engineering Representative (DER) / Seeking DER status
Crewmember Expectations:
Regular attendance and punctuality
Potential need to work flexible hours and be available to respond on short notice
Able to maintain a professional appearance
When working or traveling on JetBlue flights, and if time permits, all capable crewmembers are asked to assist with light cleaning of the aircraft
