Today, our staff of more than 500 lawyers, scientists, economists, policy and communications experts, and others, work out of offices in New York, Washington, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Bozeman, Montana, and Beijing. Position Summary NRDC is seeking a Clean Vehicles and Fuels Advocate to join the Climate and Clean Energy program in our New York office. This position will help fulfill NRDC's priority to safeguard the climate by reducing carbon and other air pollution from transportation. The vast U.S. vehicle fleet must run primarily on clean electricity by 2050 to reach long term pollution reduction targets and this requires a rapid ramp-up of electric vehicle sales now and in the coming decades. This position will focus on accelerating electric vehicle adoption and transportation electrification more broadly in Eastern U.S. states by advancing needed state policies including electric utility programs to set appropriate vehicle charging rates, deploy needed infrastructure, and conduct customer outreach; vehicle purchase incentives; and clean vehicle standards. The advocate will also support improved federal policies. Responsibilities * Advocate for state and regional policies that advance low- and zero-emission vehicles through engagement with state legislatures, executive and administrative offices including written and oral testimony in regulatory proceedings and legislative hearings. Specific policy focus areas are likely to include: * Electric vehicle charging infrastructure policies; * Expanding access to clean transportation and zero emission vehicles in disadvantaged communities; and * Vehicle standards and incentive measures for light-duty vehicles and medium/heavy-duty trucks. * Actively participate in regional environmental coalitions and low-carbon transportation stakeholder groups. * Engage community groups, labor, electric utilities, automakers, equipment manufacturers and other stakeholders to help ensure widespread access to clean transportation including for low-income communities. * Conduct, lead, and/or support research and analysis of clean transportation feasibility assessments and policy proposals. Qualifications The ideal candidate will have the personal and professional skills to advance NRDC's objectives, including: * At least 2 years of relevant work experience (including some experience in the transportation sector). * A graduate level degree in a related discipline(s) such as engineering, public policy, business, or law. * Strong written and oral advocacy skills, especially communicating technical and analytical information in a clear and persuasive manner; * Strong technical research, analytical and quantitative skills; * Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team setting; * Demonstrated ability to work within broad coalitions that reach beyond the traditional environmental community; * Familiarity with environmental policy, ideally with clean vehicle and fuel standards, utility regulation and/or energy and climate change policy; * Demonstrated project management skills that could be readily applied to the job responsibilities listed above. The candidate will also be able to travel extensively among Eastern states and occasionally to other NRDC offices for planning, training, and advocacy purposes. NRDC is committed to workplace diversity and inclusion.
