Responsibilities for this Position
General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Senior Advanced Field Support Representative (FSR) to support the US Coast Guard (USCG) in Sector Long Island Sound. The selected candidate will be required to drive a company-supplied vehicle to cover 15 Rescue 21 sites: USCG Sector New York located in Staten Island, NY, nine USCG Stations, and five Remote Fixed Facilities (RFFs).
The selected candidate should be located near Mineola NY on Long Island or a reasonable distance from USCG Sector New York Headquarters which is in Staten Island, NY. The FSR will work out of their home and have a GDMS supplied vehicle, tools and supplies necessary to maintain Rescue 21 sites, including a regional depot spares location. The primary responsibility of this role is for equipment and system support of the Rescue 21 communication and direction finding system at remote sites along the Long Island Peninsula. The FSR will provide emergency repair response coverage and total system preventive maintenance coverage which will require 2 to 6 hours of driving for site access. The FSR must also be willing and able to travel up to 25% of the time outside of the area of responsibility supporting other FSR's throughout the continental U.S., Hawaii, USVI, Puerto Rico, and Guam. The successful candidate has detailed knowledge of system tactical employment and optimization and the ability to document failures and corrective action in accordance with proper procedures and methods. This role will act independently in most situations and will prepare and submit periodic status reports and inventories as required by operational procedures.
Field activities will include installing, maintaining, integrating, troubleshooting, testing and servicing of fielded systems/products at customer sites. The FSR will diagnose and repair any mechanical, hardware, software or system failures using established procedures and submit reports on system reliability metrics to technical/regional support centers. Additionally the FSR will set up and utilize specialized test and diagnostic equipment to isolate any malfunctions. The FSR works closely with design engineering in evaluating product performance and conducting field trials and will conduct start-up, cutover and checkout activities on newly installed systems. Site and equipment inspections will also be completed in order to perform preventative and corrective maintenance. This position will work with more senior FSR's to plan and emplace system configuration to meet specific mission requirements, conduct technical seminars and training for customers, conduct informal on the job training for other field service staff members and customers, and over-the shoulder/refresher training to users in the field as required.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:
Installs and repairs equipment; instructs customers in equipment operation; provides technical assistance; checks equipment for malfunctions. Conducts technical analysis of product implementations, modifications and enhancements to product in accordance with specific customer specifications and implementations. Troubleshoots technical problems and issues, determines technical solution in accordance with product and customer specifications, and recommends actions to company or customer representatives for coordinative product solution. Assesses product needs in accordance with customer specifications. Conducts technical training and product briefing with customers, vendors and company representatives. Acts as local on-site representative to customer's organization.
Conducts site and equipment inspections in order to perform preventative and corrective maintenance
Conducts technical seminars and training for customer or company personnel, informal on the job training for other field service staff members and customers, and over-the-shoulder/refresher training to users in the field as required
Diagnoses and repairs mechanical, hardware, software and systems failures using established procedures and submits reports on system reliability metrics to technical/regional support centers
Documents failures and corrective action in accordance with proper procedures, and makes technical recommendations based on this collective data
Interfaces with Customers, Military Personnel, Government dignitaries, External consultants/experts, all levels of employees across the company, including Executive Management
May deploy and operate with US Forces to CONUS or OCONUS field locations
Provides technical support independently displaying initiative and sound problem solving techniques
Perform complex technical evaluation and resolve critical technical problems on fielded systems
Performs field activities associated with installing, maintaining, integrating, troubleshooting, testing and servicing of multiple fielded systems/products at customer sites
Provides technical advice to lower level Field Support Representatives when implementing moderately complex equipment installations
Provides technical support independently and displays a high degree of resourcefulness and initiative
Recommends design enhancements to internal management and engineering
Serves as the subject matter expert working with the tactical customer to accomplish initial installation, configuration and reconfiguration of all equipment as the communications environment evolves
Specific OSHA training such as 10 hours construction training may be required determined by management
May be required to work outside for up to 10 hours a day
Travel required more than 25% of the time
Typically handles complex products and/or problems, provides technical guidance to lower level Field Support Representatives
Works closely with design engineering in evaluation product performance and conducting field trials
Works independently with minimal supervision
Works with customer leadership on the planning and implementation of system customization to meeting specific mission requirements
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Applies extensive technical expertise and has full knowledge of other related disciplines. Ability to identify and load an Internal Operating System
Ability to troubleshoot basic program-related faults
Ability to use Hyper Terminal to bypass password on routers/switches
Ability to work independently
Strong knowledge of Cisco commands
Clear understanding of technologies associated with supported systems, and the application of these technologies within the customer environment, including detailed knowledge of system tactical employment configuration
Clear understanding of auxiliary power unit repair
Considerable knowledge of basic test theory
Proficient knowledge of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning repair and maintenance
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
Clear understanding of test and diagnostic equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, etc.
Strong verbal and written communication skills

Two years of directly related non-military technical trade school or the equivalent experience, along with an additional six years of related experience is required. Industry certifications are highly preferred. Field service or technical activity is preferred.
