Senior Accounting Policy Manager

Position will work with the Director of Accounting Policy and Treasury Controllership.

Responsibilities include research of complex accounting issues, preparation of accounting support documentation and compilation of quarterly and annual executive level reports. The position will also be involved in coordinating internal technical training and accounting related communications.

  • Conduct accounting research and advise internal customers on the proper accounting for transactions that are significant and complex in nature.

  • Solid knowledge of hedge accounting, securitization accounting, as well as the accounting for mergers and acquisitions.

  • Ability to listen to complex issues, understand key goals, and propose solutions compliant with US GAAP.

  • Interface with internal and external auditors, bank regulators, and executive management.

  • Implement new US. GAAP accounting pronouncements throughout organization that meet Huntington's business objectives.

  • Assist with the coordination of the quarterly Accounting Policy Committee meeting and the Disclosure Review Committee meeting.

  • Assist with other Corporate Accounting activities, including advising on the preparation and SEC, Regulatory and Shareholder reports.

  • Maintain Huntington's Corporate Accounting Policy database as well as support for other technical accounting guidance.

  • Huntington's Corporate Accounting Policies have been designed to ensure that accounting across the organization is consistent and complies with all generally accepted accounting principles, including FASB, EITF and SEC promulgations.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting.
  • CPA required.
  • A minimum of 7 years' accounting experience that includes US GAAP or SEC technical accounting experience and work with accounting policies and accounting research.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience at a large public accounting firm working with financial institutions is strongly preferred.

  • Experience preparing technical accounting written communications and financial services industry experience.

  • Experience with Treasury activities and hedge accounting preferred.

  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of management.

Responsibilities will include: * Directs in the collection and interpretation of business requirements, and participates in the development and review of processes and procedures, workflow analytics, and reporting. * Develops and maintains of all applicable policy and procedure documentation. * Independently obtains and identifies the business requirements needed to carry out and improve applicable business processes. * Translates business needs, processes and/or procedures by partnering with applicable experts and business stakeholders to determine and articulate needs. * Drives the development, analysis and distribution of relevant reporting. Business Functional Support : * Manage, oversee, and support Reconciliation and Account Certification processes across Finance and several Lines of Businesses * Support and develop reconciliations and account certifications using Fiserv's Frontier Reconciliation and Certification modules * Support reconciliations types that include Source to General Ledger, Source to Source system, and Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) to General Ledger * Identify and coordinate remediation efforts of source system data issues * Support quarterly testing and sign-off of source data enhancements and reconcilement process changes * Collect, review, and analyze data for completeness and accuracy from multiple sources including Teradata Database, PeopleSoft General Ledger, and OBIEE dashboards. * Escalate and coordinate resolution of production issues with our technology partners * Assist and support reconcilers and certifiers with their business and reconciliation tool questions Job Description * Provides accounting, reporting and analytical expertise in support of a business function or business unit. * Provides specialized accounting, financial reporting, accounting research and control oversight for the company. * Creates accounting memoranda and various specialized reports for internal and external use. * Completes month-end, quarter-end and year-end closing activities related to foreign exchange, cash management and tax, and subsidiary regulatory reporting, including preparing the appropriate audit work papers for such activities. * Supports and assists accounting staff in the development of their professional skills.
