We are looking for a Senior Technical Accounting Manager to join our Finance and Accounting team in our Fremont, California Office.

Job Description:

We are looking for a Senior Accounting Manager in our Controller's organization reporting to the Assistant controller. This person will be leading Consolidation and US General Ledger team and is also responsible for a variety of technical accounting areas including: Stock Based Compensation(ASC718), M&A accounting activity, assisting with SEC reporting, providing ad hoc technical research along with worldwide consolidated financial results as well as processes and procedures in our current ERP systems.

  • Leader of worldwide accounting recording and reporting including managing the closing and audit, defining the reporting requirement, and standardizing account and entity set up in ERP system.

  • Manage Consolidation and US General Ledger team with the responsibilities including worldwide consolidated results and variance analysis, foreign currency hedging and restructuring accounting as well as America region financials.

  • Prepare and support Stock Based Compensation accounting, basic and dilutive share account (both actual and forecast) and produce related roll-forward and analysis schedules.

  • Provide SEC reporting assistance with regards to equity accounting and stock plans, acquisition disclosures and various footnotes.

  • Participate on due diligent on potential acquisitions and purchase agreement review

  • Owner of full acquisition accounting including purchase price allocation and engaging with third party for the valuations.

  • Provide technical research along with writing detailed memos that support various positions

  • Owner of Sarbanes-Oxley compliance for worldwide general ledger and equity related controls.

  • Lead finance integration for newly acquired companies

  • Participate in company-wide projects that directly or indirectly impact technical accounting and analysis

Job Requirements:

  • Strong leadership and organization skills

  • Working knowledge of stock-based compensation and purchase accounting

  • Excellent written and verbal communication.

  • Ability to effectively communicate to very different audiences in different functions and geographic locations; ability to discuss issues in a technical manner to the external auditors and practically to the field.

  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel required, with SAP experience highly desirable.

  • Individual must be highly motivated and able to work with tight deadlines.

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.

  • Undergraduate degree in Accounting or Finance is required. CPA with big 4 experience is required.

  • 7 to 10 years of finance and accounting experience, including at least 2 years of stock based compensation.

The Lease Accounting Manager will report to the Senior Accounting Manager and manage the day-to-day activities of their team, as well as manage special projects for the Controllership Organization. Highly organized, an ability to manage multiple projects within set deadlines, ability to meet month-end close deadlines, and ensure the smooth operation of the Lease Accounting team. Ability to build on-going cooperation with other departments and a range of internal and external stakeholders will be essential in the success of this role. An ideal candidate in this role will be someone with strong technical accounting background (Big 4 Audit experience), and accounting industry experience. This individual will need to be organized and strategic in order to handle multiple responsibilities at once. A successful communicator will allow this individual to work effectively across multiple business units within Tesla and serve as a link to bridge any gaps in end-to-end business processes. Responsibilities: * Oversight on all aspects of New Lease Accounting (ASC 842) and Reporting as follows * Solid understanding and application of the new lease accounting criteria * Determination of Build-to-Suit Lease Accounting criteria * Strong knowledge in identification of embedded leases * Review initial lease assessment for new leases * Review proper treatment for the leases (finance vs. operating) * Review of the individual lease checklist against the sub-ledger * Review lease sub-ledger vs. general ledger roll-forward * Perform various lease analyses (trend analysis, fluctuation analysis, rent expense analysis) * Review flux analyses on all B/S and I/S balances * Provide audit (internal/external) support (i.e. pull relevant lease support and address various inquiries) * Provide various SEC reporting schedules impacting new lease accounting * Work cross-functionally with other groups to foresee potential accounting issues and recommend practical solutions associated with contemplated business transactions * Drive process improvements and automation to improve efficiencies within the group * Manage or assist with various special projects within the Controllership organization * Recommend to management any updates to accounting policies that can be applied across multiple business groups * Lead resolution on open accounting problems across the business and take initiative to address them * Lead special projects as needed Requirements: * Combination of Big 4 Audit experience and industry experience * Specialization on Lease accounting (lessee accounting) * Prior management or supervisory experience * Excellent MS Excel Skills * Highly effective communication skills (verbal and written) * Strong analytical and problem solving skills * Ability to develop strong partnerships and influence people effectively * Ability to work in a fast paced environment, prioritize appropriately and handle multiple tasks simultaneously * Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance and/or the equivalent in experience * Evidence of exceptional ability * Strong understanding of US GAAP * Minimum 5-10 years of relevant business experience, manufacturing preferred Tesla Motors Fremont CA
