Job Description:
Kansas City University is searching for an experienced and organized Senior Accounting and Payroll Analyst to join its Finance team. This person will ensure swift and accurate completion of the university's bi-weekly payroll for its two campus locations. The successful candidate will be highly organized and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment while ensuring records are maintained with accuracy and strict confidentiality. This Senior Accounting and Payroll Analyst will also provide assistance to both Finance and Human Resources when necessary.
Essential Duties:
Maintain payroll information by ensuring the systems in place allow for accurate calculation and processing of payroll records and ensure areas of weakness are communicated and addressed in a timely manner
Creates, prepares and analyzes reports of earnings, taxes, deductions, etc. for the university's bi-weekly payroll to ensure employee payments are processed accurately
Processes quarterly and annual tax reconciliations with 3rd party vendor
Process garnishments as needed
Analyze and resolve discrepancies between payroll, timekeeping and 3rd party vendor.
Prepares and analyzes data for various external audits and reviews
Verify and complete unemployment claims and employment verifications in a timely manner
Maintains payroll guidelines by writing and updating policies and procedures
Ability to effectively communicate payroll polices to individuals and management as questions arise
Stays informed on the latest laws and legislations and informs management of any legal changes
Collaborate with Financial Reporting Manager to ensure forecasts and projections are updated timely
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field required
4+ years of experience processing and/or reviewing payroll processes
Knowledge of Workday payroll strongly preferred
Excellent excel skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Precise attention to detail
Ability to multitask, prioritize and manage time efficiently to ensure deadlines are met
Strong understanding of internal controls for payroll processing, ability to identify areas of weakness and provide solutions for proper mitigation
Ability to interact effectively and work efficiently with individuals at all levels in the organization
