Inshur is a dynamic VC backed Insurtech start-up with offices in New York City and Brighton, UK.

Following rapid growth since our launch in 2016, we are looking for an experienced Senior Accountant/Assistant Controller to work with our finance team to help shape the future of our company.

As the Senior Accountant/Assistant Controller, you will primarily be responsible for the day to day accounting and reporting of our international operations.

Based on performance, ideally this role will lead to a Controller position within 1 year.

Reporting to the Head of Finance you will be based in our NY headquarters in Midtown, and also support our Brighton, UK


Key Responsibilities

In this role you will:

Participate in the final stages of implementation of our accounting system upgrade and assist with the design of

scalable accounting policies and procedures aligned with our growth trajectory.

Ensure accurate and timely completion of the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close process to ensure transactions are properly reflected and in accordance with GAAP and IFRS.

Assist in the efforts towards the preparation, review, and approval of the organization's financial statements, including annual operating, cash, and capital budgets, and monitoring budget vs. actual operating performance.

Oversee day to day accounting for all Inshur entities, including AP, AR, and payroll.

Assist in annual budget, tax preparation and financial audit processes.

Provide support for ad hoc financial projects, analysis, and financial presentations and due diligence for the Inshur management team.

Help drive streamlining and automation of various processes and functions within Finance to ensure maximum efficiency and identify areas for development and improvement.


Bachelors Degree in Accounting or related field (CPA, MBA or MA strongly preferred)

8+ years experience working as an accountant, with a mix of post series A startup and major accounting firm or public company experience.

Strong knowledge and application of GAAP and IFRS global accounting standards and internal controls.

Excellent financial modeling skills, and ability to use data and analytics to inform decisions.

Solid revenue recognition, transfer pricing and foreign currency translation experience.

Ability to prioritize, make thoughtful decisions, multi-task, execute, follow up and ensure attention to detail.

A team player, dedicated to improvement and a strong sense of ownership.

Strong problem solving, analytical, communication and interpersonal skills.

Proficiency with Sage, Gusto, Microsoft tools (Excel, Word, Powerpoint) and Slack is required


CPA preferred

Insurtech or fintech experience
