Position Summary

Reporting to the Manager of University Accounting, this position manages several accounting related activities, ensuring timely period close and accurate financial reporting. This position interacts with multiple departments and cross-functional teams, utilizing a variety of systems to fulfill responsibilities and meet objectives. This is a hybrid position that primarily works from home.

Job Description

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for accounting activities related to pledges receivable. Includes gathering data from various sources, providing ad hoc reports and analysis, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and preparing monthly journal entries in accordance with revenue recognition.

  • Responsible for accounting activities related to the calculation and distribution of interest earned to schools and other business units for their share of cash invested centrally by the university. Includes gathering and summarizing data, preparing journal entries, and distributing reports to schools and Senior Leadership.

  • Responsible for various monthly, quarterly, and yearly general accounting activities for assigned areas; includes preparing journals and variance analysis, reconciling accounts, and supporting other period close activities.

  • Responsible for financial reporting analysis, monitoring for data integrity, and taking action to follow-up with necessary corrections. Includes understanding all asset and liability balance sheet lines and reviewing periodic balance sheet reconciliations prepared by others to ensure reconciliations are prepared accurately and differences are resolved timely.

  • Special requests and projects involving complex accounting transactions and concepts across financial systems; identifies, gathers, assesses, and analyzes data used for making decisions and makes decisions where appropriate; incorporates data and ideas into either formal or informal reports, presenting resolution to issues or problems; learns/stays engaged in utilizing the advances in financial systems to ensure effective and efficient delivery of information.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting.

  • Three to five years of progressive accounting experience.

  • Certified Public Accountant, Master's degree in Accounting or Master of Business Administration.

  • Demonstrated analytical and accounting skills with strong attention to details.

  • Prior experience in a large complex organization.

  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and Word.

  • Strong proficiency with computers and adapting to new software and systems.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Service-oriented communicator who is an accessible team player with the ability to forge relationships.

  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional groups with varying perspectives and needs to solve problems and support department/university initiatives.

  • Strong analytical, problem solving and decision-making capabilities; ability to properly assess pertinent data and develop a framework for effective and practical solutions to complex issues.

  • A self-motivated individual with a high degree of analytical intelligence; actively attempts to influence events, originates ideas and takes action.

  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple responsibilities, meet deadlines under varying degrees of pressure.

  • Ability to handle confidential information responsibly.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and three years accounting experience or equivalent education and experience.

Salary Range

$57,300.00 - $97,700.00 / Annually

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
