As a Senior Accountant with WellsColeman youll have the opportunity to work with a variety of clients including individuals and small to medium sized businesses from a variety of industries. Requirements

  1. Ability to proactively and effectively communicate with clients, staff, managers and partners
  2. Plan and perform audit, review and compilation engagements independently with limited supervision and within budgetary constraints
  3. Prepare and review tax returns for individuals, partnerships and corporations independently with limited supervision
  4. Identify, research and resolve technical issues in audit and tax engagements
  5. Meet time constraints and deadlines
  6. Train and supervise entry-level staff and interns
  7. Actively participate in civic and/or business organizations
  8. Contribute to positive work environment while maintaining positive attitude and desire to succeed
  9. Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Business
  10. CPA
  11. 3-5 years of experience in public accounting

For more than 40 years, the Museum has served as the state's flagship institution for informal STEM learning, employing a broad range of experiences to inspire and engage guests of all ages. Through experiential exhibits, inspiring artifacts, interactive technologies, live science demonstrations, features in the Dome Theater ? the largest movie screen in Virginia ? and touring exhibitions from around the world, the Museum presents dynamic science programming to hundreds of thousands of guests each year. The Museum is located in the iconic Broad Street Station in Richmond. The Museum also has a satellite location, the Danville Science Center, located in Danville, and is currently developing another satellite location in Northern Virginia. The Grant & Financial Accountant will provide grant accounting, budgeting, payroll and capital asset accounting support for the Science Museum of Virginia's financial functions. This position will also provide fiscal and administrative support for the Museum's enterprises, real estate, debt management and contracts. This position will be involved in significant collaboration and teamwork across the organization requiring unilateral cooperation and a willingness to support critical mission activities in a fast paced and rewarding environment. Minimum Qualifications The successful candidate will demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and state governmental accounting policies and procedures; knowledge of state government budget and grants management requirements; the ability to manage budget and expenditure activities related to funded grants, payroll issues, reconciling grant accounts and producing summary reports; knowledge of the Commonwealth of Virginia payroll and leave policies and procedures within the Cardinal CAPP Manual and Time, Attendance and Leave Manual; experience with accounts receivable and accounts payable; excellent oral and written communication skills; the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management; and proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and experience using electronic financial management systems. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, business administration, or related field preferred, or an equivalent combination of professional training and experience.
