Southern Veterinary Partners (SVP) is regional network of animal hospitals with the common goal of providing the highest quality veterinary care to companion animals. SVP currently owns over 80 locations in the Southeast, is acquiring two new locations per month and is sponsored by a leading private equity team.

SVP has a need for a Senior Accountant to join our rapidly growing team in Birmingham, AL.

This role will own technical accounting for SVP, including consolidation accounting, debt and equity instruments, lease accounting, business combinations and more. The role will require a very comprehensive knowledge of U.S. GAAP. Furthermore, this role will include accounting for and either review or preparation of reconciliations for the balance sheet and income statement including fixed assets, intangibles, prepaid assets, etc. The person in this role will become an expert in accounting matters for SVP and its operations.

This role will be an integral part of the monthly financial statement preparation process and opportunity to work on other ad hoc projects as part of a growing Company.

Responsibilities

  • Understand and account for the companys operations including multiple revenue streams
  • Become an expert at accounting issues relevant to SVP and the Veterinary industry
  • Research and interpret U.S. GAAP on technical accounting issues and have an up to date knowledge of accounting standard updates and their implications for SVP
  • Provide technical support and advice on management accounting
  • Prepare and review journal entries and transactions
  • Coordinates and reconciles balance sheet accounts including but not limited to intangible assets, debt, fixed assets and prepaid assets
  • Become an expert in SVP financial reporting including consolidation accounting
  • Lead the Companys adoption of the new lease standards, ASC 842
  • Understands and can account for business combinations in accordance with U.S. GAAP
  • Interpret and evaluate the nature and impact of transactions in given areas of responsibility
  • Diligently process and review balance sheet recons and transactions where required
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Prepare & facilitate information between locations and to management as required
  • Maintain thorough organized records

Requirements

  • CPA and Bachelors Degree in finance/Accounting or a related field
  • 2 + years experience in accounting, audit or other relevant professional capacity
  • Experience working in retail or healthcare industry preferred
  • Proficient at working in accounting software
  • Advanced Excel Skills & working with large amounts of data
  • Outstanding presentation, reporting and communication skills.

Responsible for more complex accounting processes. Coordinate accounting and reporting processes and workflow of other team members. Oversee the complete and accurate maintenance of assigned accounting records and the preparation and compilation of financial reports and information. Prepare or review journal entries to accurately record the company's financial transactions in the proper period. Compile and maintain necessary supporting documentation. 3. Complete or review and sign off on reconcilements, ensuring preparation in accordance with corporate reconcilement policies and standards. Research and resolve reconciling items. Maintain necessary supporting documentation. 4. Coordinate the design, implementation and documentation of accounting and reporting process workflow and controls for assigned accounts and subsidiary accounting systems (which may include spreadsheets, databases, or applications), including reconcilement controls. Recommend control refinements as products, processes, GAAP, regulatory reporting requirements or corporate policies change. 5. Review and update policies and procedures for compliance with governmental regulations and corporate policies and standards. Coordinate development of new accounting processes and procedures as needed. 6. Prepare and interpret more complex reports and analyses related to financial performance, internal control compliance, budget or forecast variances, etc. for assigned area of responsibility. Ensure complete data capture and accurate and timely submission of assigned management, regulatory and financial reports and analyses. 7. Maintain a working knowledge of GAAP; build expertise related to assigned area of responsibility. 8. Review and interpret more complex contracts or agreements for proper accounting treatment, as required. 9. Maintain assigned subsidiary accounting systems, which may range from simple spreadsheets to more complex databases. Assist in the development and testing of economic models. 10. Monitor assigned account activity for compliance with established accounting policies. 11. Coordinate internal or external audits and examinations. In collaboration with Accounting Policy, make responses to external and regulatory requests.
