Biotechnology, located in San Jose, CA is seeking a Senior Accountant to join their team. This position will assist in the monthly close process. Account analysis, general ledger analysis, reconciliations and accruals. Strong accounting skills and process improvement skills are required. The position requires knowledge of accounting principles and regulations as well ERP systems.
Provides support to the Accounting Manager and play a key role in the monthly close process for specific assigned general ledger accounts and adjusting entries as well as for all accruals by overseeing the recording, payment and reporting for these items
Analyzes information and options by developing spreadsheet reports and verifies information.
Prepares general ledger entries by maintaining records and files and reconciliations of all accounts.
Prepares payments by accruing expenses; assigning account numbers; requesting disbursements; reconciling accounts.
Develops and implements accounting procedures by analyzing current procedures; recommending changes.
Answers accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting data.
Protects organization's value by keeping information confidential.
Accomplishes accounting and organization mission by completing related results as needed.
Manages the accounting for all expense accounts; to include: identifying each expense by department and state, and maintain the accounting for expenses in accordance with corporate policy and GAAP.
Participates in the maintenance of the general ledger on a GAAP basis.
Supports the preparation of state and municipal tax filings as well as the preparation of the quarterly and annual statements prepared on a statutory accounting basis to each state.
Assist with procedural and control improvements within the Accounting department.
Produce error-free accounting results
Spot errors and suggest ways to improve efficiency and spending
Provide input into department's goal setting process
Support month-end and year-end close process
Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
Bachelor's degree required
Minimum of 5 years of work experience in an accountant position
Working knowledge of accounting software and ERP systems
Understanding of GAAP and all applicable accounting rules and regulations
Advanced MS Excel skills including Vlookups and Pivot tables; proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite
Awareness of business trends
Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process
Accuracy and attention to detail
Aptitude for numbers and quantitative skills
Ability to take ownership of work
Strong team work attitude
