This posting is in the Revenue and Regulatory Accounting & Analysis division within the Controller's Department of Southern California Edison's (SCE) Finance Organizational Unit. You will be responsible for application of technical skills and expertise in general and regulatory accounting to perform and analyze accounting transactions, develop financial reports and financial statements, perform budget and comparative fluctuation analysis, solve other accounting-related problems. The Senior Accountant may be required to work across several software systems, including SAP, BI, and PowerPlan Lease (for lease accounting), and recommend and implement process improvements to refine business processes and drive efficiencies.
Record journal entries and maintain required documentation.
Perform accounting analysis, variance analysis and flux analysis and provide sound explanations as required.
Apply knowledge of SCE accounting and SAP to inventively and accurately problem solve and provide guidance to internal and external key personnel (often with little or no precedent).
Provide functional mentorship to Accountants and personnel outside the department.
Recommend and implement process improvements to refine business processes and drive efficiencies.
Assess revenue contract originations and amendments under US GAAP to resolve appropriate accounting treatment under ASC 606. Record revenue to the general ledger.
Perform monthly accounting close of assigned California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) and Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) regulatory balancing accounts and related cost recovery mechanisms utilizing data derived from SAP and other sources.
Coordinate and / or support accounting to implement CPUC General Rate Case (GRC) decision.
Prepare periodic (monthly, quarterly and annual) Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), FERC and CPUC reports related to regulatory mechanisms and revenue.
Support recorded cost information for CPUC regulatory proceedings.
Effectively source data from SAP, BI and PowerPlan Lease to support analysis and accounting transactions.
Bachelor's Degree or higher in Accounting or related field
Five (5) or more years of experience in Accounting or related field
Ability to research, interpret and apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
Ability to perform complex account reconciliations and variance analysis
Proficiency with SAP or similar enterprise software
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience working with large amounts of data
Certified Public Accountant (active or inactive)
Experience in a public accounting firm and/or regulated utility
Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate accounting issues and business processes to peers, clients, management, and other organizations.
Ability to work in a team setting to analyze information and develop solutions to a variety of accounting and accounting systems issues
Strong ethics, leadership and interpersonal skills
Ability to follow Edison safety protocols and safe work practices
Experience with robotics and/or business process automation
The primary work location for this position is Rosemead, California.
