POSITION SUMMARY

The purpose of this position is to ensure proper valuation and accounting of petroleum products, feeds, blends, and fuels, as well as to perform monthly reconciliations and valuations of inventory. This includes the proper accounting and actualizations of NGL volumes, transportation and logistics costs as recorded in the Right-Angle system. Additionally, the incumbent will cross-train and serve as back-up for other team members within the Petroleum Services group.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS.

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • 4+ years of experience in accounting related field required.

  • 2+ years of experience in the oil and gas industry preferred.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of GAAP, Sarbanes-Oxley, and internal controls required.

  • Intermediate to expert Excel spreadsheet skills required.

  • Experience with Oracle Financials, Right Angle, or similar software preferred.

  • Fluent in English, oral and written communication required.

  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to handle complex tasks that require independent thought and analysis.

  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to change tasks and priorities to meet the demands of the organization.

  • Passion for continuous improvement is required, with a strong curiosity of understanding and improving end to end legacy structures and processes.

  • Fluent in English, oral and written required.

  • Ability to adjust schedule to meet business needs.

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Ensure accurate volume, price calculations and valuations of refinery and off-premises inventory.

  • Ensure accurate volume and price calculations of purchases, buy/sells and sales of products, feeds, blends, and biofuels.

  • Verify and reconcile third party pipeline statements to activity in Right Angle and Excel.

  • Prepare, review, and distribute monthly reports with analysis of purchases, sales, inventories, and transportation costs.

  • Prepare weekly cash flow projections.

  • Assure proper valuation of inventory through utilizing the FIFO method, as well as the ability-to-bear and lower of cost and net realizable value.

  • Prepare monthly reports with variance analysis on purchases, sales, buy/sells, inventories, and transportation costs.

  • Assure the proper valuation of production and cost of goods sold.

  • Verify and reconcile third party pipeline statements and process invoices for payment.

  • Work with traders, schedulers, and analysts regarding movements and inventories.

  • Communicate with customers and vendors as needed on billing, settlements, and payments.

  • Ensure accuracy of compliance with contract pricing, strategies, and provisions.

  • Maintain policies and procedures related to accounting for products, feeds, blends, and biofuels purchases and inventory valuation to ensure proper internal controls.

  • Ensure compliance with company policies and SOX controls.

  • Reconcile Oracle general ledger accounts and prepare analysis of variances.

  • Ensure timely completion of month end close and reporting.

  • Prepare monthly journal entries, general accounting duties.

  • Support the identification, evaluation, and prioritization of current business and system process optimizations associated with the refining, marketing, and logistics operations. Propose potential solutions to leadership.

  • Assist Manager Refined Products & Renewables, cross train within other areas of Petroleum Accounting and provide support as needed.

  • Regularly communicate with Manager work progress, concerns, questions.

  • Other duties as assigned.
