The Patient AR and Contractuals Senior Accountant monitors patient services revenue, patient accounts receivable, and analyzes, computes, and reports on patient services contractual reserves estimates.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare journal entries and related reconciliations

  • Assist with preparing financial information, including the audited financial statements, board report, and others upon request

  • Coordinate and present analysis for standing meetings with members of the accounting and financial analytics teams

  • Work with the GL Manager, Regulatory Reporting Manager and/or Controller on special projects as assigned

  • Develop tactical solutions to identified issues within the department. Assist others within the department as needed, including training and research, and serve as a liaison to those outside of the department

  • Communicate with customers (peers, Fred Hutch department managers, partners and affiliates, etc.) to identify and resolve accounting issues, share and gather information, and report out financial information

  • Validate and reconcile Patient services gross charges and Patient Accounts Receivables from the patient financial system to the accounting ERP.

  • Maintain working knowledge of payor contracts, changes in terms and requirements.

  • Compute Patient contractual rates based on Zero Balance Account (ZBA) analysis.

  • Prepare, manage, and analyze data related to contractual allowances and corresponding contractual allowance entries, working with the Revenue Cycle team to determine any additional risks to be factored into the calculation.

  • Calculate and recommend incremental reserve estimates based on specifically identified risks.

  • Present results of contractual allowance analysis, including the Revenue Realization Rate (RRR) report, explaining any unusual variances in relation to current month's gross patient services revenue compared to budget and prior month.

  • Prepare reports including but not limited to RRR, Contractuals Analysis workbook, Contractuals presentation shared with executive leadership.

  • Monitor, track and analyze Third Party Reimbursements impacting contractuals including Safety Net Assessment and related entries, Medicare Cost Report settlements and accruals and entries related to Accountable Care Networks

  • Prepare the Amounts Generally Billed (AGB) rate report for Revenue Cycle annually, based on prior fiscal year.

  • Prepare and record gross charges and contractuals accrual for year end.

  • Prepare Lookback Analysis on an as needed basis.

  • Identify and implement areas of improvements such as increasing the level of data accuracy or decreasing the time spent to update a model or report.

  • Provide key support and analysis in annual budget process as requested.

  • Assist in preparation of footnote disclosures and schedules to support the year end statutory audit.

  • Works with leadership to design and develop the charts, graphs, and dashboards that allow information to be shared in an understandable and actionable manner.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in accounting or finance, with 3 years of experience in healthcare.

  • Highly proficient with Microsoft Excel functionality such as lookups, pivot tables and Power Pivots.

  • Highly proficient in EPIC reporting, Slicer Dicer.

  • Solid financial skills, including a working understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and the relationship between income statement, balance sheet, and statement of cash flows.

  • Excellent organizational and problem solving skills

  • Strong attention to detail, follow up regularly, prioritize and ability to independently perform complicated and multiple tasks with minimal direction

  • Able to identify and resolve routine and complex problems

  • Comfortable communicating with both a technical and non-technical audience

  • Excellent and pleasant oral and written communication skills by email, phone and in person

  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Word, Excel and Outlook

Preferred:

  • Certified Public Accountant

  • Knowledge of and experience with the financial suite of PeopleSoft applications highly desirable

  • Strong interpersonal skills working in a collaborative environment.

  • Ability to work under deadline in a fast-paced, financially complex environment.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Teams, and Outlook.

The annual base salary range for this position is from $76,606.40 to $114,878.40 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
