Senior Accountant: Food & Beverage Americas, Norcross, Georgia

The Food & Beverage Americas Controllership team is seeking a Senior Accountant located in Norcross, GA. This individual will report to the Accounting Manager, Food & Beverage Americas division and will work closely with Shared Services, HUB Inventory, Finance, Sales, Corporate Consolidations, Business Unit plant personnel and other support organizations within WestRock. This position is responsible for the proper financial recording and reporting of manufacturing activity.

How you will impact WestRock:

  • Responsible for the day-to-day plant accounting activity and for accurate accounting classification of all expenditures, manufacturing cost, and capital spend and for the preparation, maintenance, timely and accurate reporting of all plant financial reports.

  • Develop and implement solutions to daily accounting and transactional processes where procedures may not be well defined.

  • Ensure monthly and quarterly compliance with all WestRock accounting policy, review and validate properly functioning internal controls and maintain ledgers in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.

  • Creation of journal entries in Blackline and JD Edwards financial accounting system with proper supporting documentation and reconciliations including reconciling inter-company accounts.

  • Maintain financial reporting system and analyze variances to plan, forecast and prior year periods; prepare month-end accruals, deferrals and other journal entries as necessary to ensure accuracy and completeness of management reporting.

  • Enforce control environment to ensure fixed assets and inventory are properly safeguarded.

  • Ensure cycle counting program is adhered to and coordinate annual physical inventory procedures.

  • Preparing and reviewing financial analysis on P&L and balance sheet accounts.

  • Provide professional expertise and assistance in the continuous improvement process to enhance transactional processing.

  • Assist in audit process through the preparation of schedules and communications with internal and external auditors.

  • Comply with SOX controls and GAAP to ensure a solid internal control environment.

  • Quarterly and annual reporting requirements.

  • Work well in a dynamic environment under tight deadlines.

  • Perform special accounting projects as assigned.

What you need to succeed:

  • Ability to follow and understand established procedures

  • Able to respond quickly to changing demands, processes and updated information

  • Has initiative to take action, anticipate potential problems and address them early

  • Excellent planning and organization skills. Being able to set priorities and schedule activities effectively to ensure timely completion of tasks and responsibilities

  • Strong interpersonal skills; excellent written and verbal communications capabilities. Communicate daily with all appropriate customers and personnel; complete reports as required on a timely basis

  • Ability to work independently in a professional manner with a team commitment

  • Communicate with multiple levels of Business Unit and Corporate personnel and establish relationships necessary for timely resolution of errors and exceptions

  • Assist with other areas as required

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in accounting with 5-7 years of related professional experience

  • Strong analytical mindset and ability required

  • Strong organizational and follow-up skills

  • Ability to work cross functionally with multiple teams in multiple locations

  • Proficiency in use of Microsoft tools with intermediate to advanced Excel Required

  • Strong interpersonal skills; excellent written and verbal communications capabilities

  • Ability to work independently in a professional manner with a team commitment

  • Demonstrated understanding of GAAP

  • Strong attention to detail

  • High comfort level with systems navigation

  • CPA preferred but not required.
