General Job Description
The Senior Accountant is responsible for supporting the month end close process and all phases of the Accounts Payable function including supplier set up and payment. This is a hands-on position that will have the opportunity to work in many areas within the accounting function with expanding responsibilities to include leading the international and domestic subsidiary close process. The Senior Accountant will be an integral part of the department, working with accounting professionals, engineers, and other administrative professionals. We are looking for someone with a strong accounting background to bring value to the team and put their imprint on the improvement of processes. This is a full-time, exempt position in MPR's Old Town Alexandria, VA office reporting to the Assistant Director of Finance and Accounting.
Lead the accounts payable process from receipt of invoice to payment (manual checks, ACH and wires).
Monitor due dates and process weekly disbursements.
Receive and process vendor invoices, record vouchers in Vision (Deltek), obtain approvals, ensure payment within terms, and create payment files.
Set up vendors and maintain vendors' (master file) information in Vision (Deltek).
Interact in a professional manner with senior management, company employees, finance staff, and external parties.
Provide information and create schedules and reconciliations for external audits including F/S audits.
Record fixed assets in fixed asset software (SAGE FAS).
Perform depreciation calculation for all fixed assets and corresponding JEs for month end.
Collaborate with the Director and Assistant Director of Finance and Accounting to support the monthly close process.
Prepare account reconciliations and adjusting entries to ensure that accounts are consistent, accurate, and complete.
Own the close process for subsidiaries (based on experience level).
Perform additional assignments, as directed by the Assistant Director of Finance and Accounting and Director of Finance and Accounting.
Education & Experience
Bachelor's Degree in accounting or a related field.
Two (2) to (3) three years' experience in general accounting and/or accounts payable.
Demonstrated knowledge of accounts payable vouching/payment process.
Demonstrated knowledge of accounting concepts (debit/credits).
CPA a plus.
Skills - Technical & Personal
Knowledge of US GAAP.
High degree of accuracy, attention to detail and confidentiality.
Logical problem solving and demonstrated ability to organize and move project tasks forward in an orderly and structured fashion.
Demonstrated aptitude in designing and maintaining electronic spreadsheets.
Effectively communicate issues/problems and results that impact timelines, accuracy and reliability of financial/billing data.
Proficiency in MS Office suite; specifically MS Excel.
Knowledge of Deltek Vision version 7.6, Deltek Vantagepoint or other accounting software, a plus.
Solid communication (both verbally and written) and time management skills.
Ability to work independently, take initiative, set priorities and see tasks through to completion.
Persistent, questioning attitude and ability to accept that in others.
Motivated to expand skills and knowledge, as well as tackle new problems and take on new responsibilities.
Strong desire to grow as a professional in the accounting field.
