Colony Capital, Inc. The Senior Accountant position will focus on supporting our hospitality platform, where we primarily invest in extended-stay hotels and premium select service hotels located in major metropolitan and corporate suburban markets. Colony Capital is headquartered in Los Angeles with over 400 employees in offices located across 19 cities in ten countries.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly schedules (income statements), Flux Reports, and Variance Reports

  • Responsible for General Ledger/Journal Entry input and reconciliation to sub-ledgers

  • Analyze and reconcile the accounts

  • Maintain schedules including depreciation, amortization, tenant improvements, escrows, accruals, straight-line rent and pre-paid schedules

  • Update all capital assets and depreciation

  • Assist with Budget/Reforecast preparation

  • Input/import budget data into Yardi.

  • Perform bank reconciliation of all cash accounts

  • Assist in preparation of audit workpapers (analysis and reconcile the accounts)

  • Analyze year-end adjusting entries

  • Review tenant work orders for coding and for sales tax; ensure that charges are appropriate

  • Review and account for construction activity and capital improvements

  • Track payments of all capital projects

  • Obtain draw request information for escrow/reserve drawdown

Qualifications

  • BA degree in Accounting

  • CPA preferred

  • Real estate experience, particularly within hotel property accounting heavily preferred

  • Public/private background desired

  • Strong communication skills

  • Strong MS Excel skills

  • Waterfall calculation experience preferred

  • GAAP exposure is a must

  • Cash management experience preferred

The Senior Accountant also provides expense review for budget managers at the Hammer Museum. The Senior Accountant performs monthly and quarterly close activities, reconciles various accounts, analyzes data, and prepares financial reports as needed. The Senior Accountant works closely with the Development department to record revenue, and reconcile contribution receivable accounts. The Senior Accountant also assists the Director of Finance & HR with budget management by providing monthly reports to budget managers and answering questions related to the reports. The Senior Accountant manages biweekly and monthly timesheet and payroll processing for all Museum employees; retroactive salary adjustments; payroll expense transfers; rush payments; and all other transactions relating to employee pay. The Senior Accountant works in conjunction with Museum Human Resources staff and department supervisors to research, resolve, and correct payroll discrepancies and errors. The Senior Accountant reviews and processes all employee travel and business expenses on an accurate and timely basis and in accordance with Museum and University policies; provides training, guidance, and assistance to staff regarding Museum and University policies and procedures; and performs administrative responsibilities related to the Finance Department. The incumbent must be able to independently set priorities and complete all responsibilities according to deadline schedules, manuals, and departmental and campus guidelines, which are based on established policies and procedures. This function requires a high level of judgment and analytical ability with a high level of accountability to maintain data integrity in all payroll and finance actions. Percentage of Time: 100 Shift Start: 9:30 am Shift End: 6:30 pm Qualifications for Position 22 Records Qualifications Required/Preferred Bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, or closely-related field, or equivalent education and experience in accounting, business administration, and/or payroll Required A minimum of 3 years' and working knowledge of payroll processing systems and applications, preferably at UC. Required Skill in analyzing information, problems, situations, practices, and procedures to define problems and objectives; ability to identify problems and formulate logical and objective conclusions, recommending alternatives toward resolution. Required General knowledge of payroll principles, practices, terminology, and transactions. Required Working knowledge of California wage and hour law. Required Demonstrated ability to analyze policies and procedures and ensure compliance of existing procedures and guidelines. Required Ability to perform duties independently and with great degree of accuracy, meet established deadlines, and work effectively under a heavy workload.
