Description

Christopher Community, Inc. (CCI) seeks an experienced Senior Accountant to join our team. CCI is a not-for-profit housing development and property management organization that assists low- and moderate-income individuals, seniors, and families to secure suitable housing across Upstate New York. The organization currently manages over 3,000 units of quality housing along with administers the Onondaga County Rental Assistance Program which provides assistance to over 1,200 households. CCI is responsible for the management of the operating budget of over $30M and employs over 160 employees.

The Senior Accountant will report to the Controller and is directly responsible to assume responsibility for a variety of accounting, financial analysis and accounting operations tasks.

Requirements

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Participation in month end close accounting processes for multiple entities including preparation/review of journal entries, for accuracy & completeness

• Preparation/review of balance sheet account reconciliations

• Preparation of income statement and balance sheet analyses including account analysis to identify incorrect postings and necessary reclassification's;

• Develop and implement effective accounting strategies, policies, and procedures in accordance with evolving regulations, legal and governmental requirements and industry trends.

• Implement and maintain effective internal controls.

• Identify opportunities for process improvements to accelerate close timelines; Partner with the CFO and Controller on strategic and operational initiatives to optimize the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the broader accounting function

• Ensuring that all required tax, contracts, and grant related financial reports are submitted in a timely manner.

• Works with auditor for the interim and year-end audits and prepare schedules as requested from the auditors.

• Manage cross functional execution of financial close execution and required documentation;

• Special projects and ad-hoc requests as assigned; This position will report to the Controller

Education, Experience & Skills

• B.S. degree in Accounting preferred.

• 1-2 years public accounting experience or 3-5 years industry accounting experience

• Experience with Non-profit GAAP, Single Audits, HUD and NYSHCR preferred.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Outstanding analytical skills with strong attention to detail

• Organization skills and ability to prioritize to meet multiple deadlines.

• Establishes and maintains effective relations internally and externally.

• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, proficiency with email, other Microsoft Office applications,

• Ability to act and operate independently with minimal daily direction

• Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees, management, and external agencies to maximize performance, creativity, problem solving and results.
