Distinguishing Features of Work Benefits Supplemental Questions

This is professional supervisory work directing, analyzing, and interpreting central accounting and/or auditing activities. Work includes planning and super- vision of one or more components of the City's accounting and account-keeping functions, financial reporting, and auditing. Work is directed and reviewed through the establishment of goals and subsequent evaluation of progress toward goal attainment.

Examples of Work Performed:

  • Ensures compliance with accounting principles and procedures as set forth by the Government Accounting Standards Board (GASB) and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

  • Ensures the accuracy and integrity of comprehensive financial reporting.

  • Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of assigned components of the accounting system and recommends and implements modifications as required.

  • Manages electronic financial information system application development, modification, and validation processes.

  • Conducts desk and field audits and directs accounting staff activities in supporting external audit proceedings.

  • Develops forms and procedures and supervises employees engaged in processing and maintaining a variety of records.

  • Directs the preparation of annual reports.

  • Interprets financial data for administrative review.

  • Completion of work assignments may require the operation of a vehicle.

Requirements of Work:

  • Thorough knowledge of accounting and/or auditing principles and practices, and ability to apply and adapt standard methods to varied and complex accounting and/or auditing activities.

  • Thorough knowledge of, and ability to use computer keyboard and video display monitor in spreadsheet development, using complex mathematical and statistical operations.

  • Considerable knowledge of macro systems in electronic spreadsheet development.

  • Knowledge of the theory and procedures of governmental and utility accounting.

  • Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures.

  • Ability to develop and implement accounting and auditing systems and procedures.

  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, other employees, representatives of outside agencies, City officials, and the public.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.

  • May require ability to acquire and maintain a valid Kansas driver's license.

  • An employee shall not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.

Required Experience and Training:

Graduation from a four-year college with a major in accounting, business administration or a related field, plus four years of experience in accounting and/or auditing work, which includes at least one year each of supervisory experience and financial systems analysis. Offers of employment will be made contingent upon passing a pre-employment physical, which will include drug screening, and upon satisfactory evaluation of the results of a police records check. Any equivalent combination of experience and training.

A successful candidate will have the following characteristics: * Demonstrated knowledge of a broad range of corporate income tax matters, particularly federal tax provision and compliance experience * Ability to manage multiple projects and communicate results to the team * Leadership, presentation and communication skills * Strong analytical and critical thinking skills * Technical writing and research skills A Day In The Life Typically Includes: As a Senior Tax Accountant on our team, your major responsibilities will include: * Review and preparation of income tax returns to ensure accurate reporting and compliance with domestic tax law including Forms 1120 and 1065 as well as the tracking of tax basis * Training and developing interns and staff accountants * Tracking tax positions and analyzing business transactions for their potential impacts on the company's effective tax rate * Preparation and review of quarterly tax accounting submissions * Supporting company positions in tax audits and participating in tax planning projects What You Will Need: Basic Qualifications: * 2+ years' experience in federal income tax role * Bachelor's degree or higher in one of the following (Accounting, Finance, Business, Economics, or Taxation) or a JD What Will Put You Ahead?
