The Chan Zuckerberg Biohub San Francisco (CZ Biohub SF) (https://www.czbiohub.org/sf/) is an independent nonprofit research institute that brings together three powerhouse universities - Stanford, UC Berkeley, and UC San Francisco - into a single collaborative technology and discovery engine. The Opportunity
The Senior Accountant will play an active role in the financial close process, including preparation and/or review of various journal entries and account reconciliations, financial statement preparation and implementation of accounting policies, procedures, and controls. The Senior Accountant will also support ongoing accounting operations which include but not limited to intercompany and external billings and fixed assets.
The position will be based in San Francisco, CA either on a hybrid or on-site basis.
You will
Drive the month-end close process by owning the general ledger
Assist in research of technical accounting issues as needed. Apply proper accounting treatment required as a basis for recording journal entries and gathering support.
Collaborate with internal and external personnel to obtain the required information for the preparation of month end journal entries
Handle sensitive financial information, adhere to strict ethical standards, and maintain the confidentiality and integrity of data
Prepare assigned journal entries and account reconciliations as well as review other journal entries and reconciliations prepared by team members
Record intercompany transactions and maintain balances with other Biohub entities
Prepare intercompany invoices for issuance and settlement
Maintain accurate fixed asset management, tracking and reporting process/system
Prepare and review financial statements for accuracy and completeness, researching and resolving missing or miscoded expenses
Maintain billings, including preparation of invoices and collection of payments for reimbursements
Prepare and maintain offline accounting schedules accurately, as required
Prepare property tax returns, business license and other renewals and registrations
Support parent company requests for the annual audit and tax returns, including preparing PBC schedules as requested
Identify and implement process improvements and controls, including system efficiencies
Ensure adherence to policies and procedures and internal controls
Perform other duties as required
You have
Essential -
Bachelor's Degree in accounting or finance
5 years of general ledger accounting experience
2 years of experience as a Senior Accountant
Solid knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and financial statement preparation
Experience using Coupa, NetSuite, ADP, Concur software
Advanced Excel skills to support month-end close and ad hoc analyses
Strong attention to detail and excellent analytical skills
Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment and prioritize duties to meet deadlines with limited supervision
Must be comfortable working in an environment with continued process improvement and changes
Ability to proactively identify and propose solutions to solve problems
Excellent organizational skills
Nice to have -
CPA
Biotech/pharmaceutical industry or research organization background
Prior experience with SOX compliance
