Position Summary:

Assist with maintaining of the university's financial procedures, records, and statements for compliance with laws and regulations. This role includes preparing financial reports and transactions ensuring compliance with university policies and regulatory standards. Contribute to the development and implementation of new procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the department.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the periodic and monthly accounting to ensure accurate and timely reporting and analysis of financial reporting for internal and external stakeholders.

  • Preparation of financial analyses to support the annual budget process and periodic reporting to ensure internal controls and related procedures are met.

  • Maintenance of the general ledger, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and adjustments for assigned accounting areas.

  • Ensure financial transactions are recorded accurately and in compliance with university policies and accounting standards.

  • Coordinate and support internal and external audits, preparation of periodic reporting and deliverables.

  • Prepare financial reports for grantors and funding agencies as needed, while ensuring compliance with donor restrictions and reporting requirements.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Support Controller with special projects and workflow process improvements.

  • Assist with accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end close.

  • Monitoring revenue and expenses; coordinating the collection, consolidation, and evaluation of financial data; preparing special reports.

  • Assists in budget planning and/or tracking for a specific program or department. May plan/track a limited number of accounts within a budget.

  • Maintains financial security by monitoring and implementing internal controls.

Qualifications

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards.

  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Abila MIP, Oracle) and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.

  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Must work well with diverse populations in a service-oriented environment.Proven customer service, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work independently and effectively as part of a team.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a higher education or non-profit environment.

Education:

  • BA or BS degree in Accounting or Financial Management preferred.

Knowledge of the following:

  • Have a good understanding of Fund Accounting, preferable.

  • Must know all phases of accounting and internal controls.

  • State and Federal regulations regarding not-for-profit policies / procedures.

  • Understanding of budgeting principles.
