Title: Senior Accountant

Reports to: Chief Financial Officer

FLSA Status: Exempt, full time

Hiring Range: $55,536 to $58,270 annually

Work Location: Administrative office primarily and potential for work from home as a Hybrid option

Position Summary

Reporting to the CFO, the Senior Accountant serves as a key finance team member within the YMCA of the Suncoast. This position contributes to the smooth operation and reliability of the department which may include responsibilities for accounting, banking, budgeting, investments, grants, controls, communications and branch relations. The Senior Accountant works within the Finance team to achieve the YMCA's goals in accordance with the policies, procedures and standards established by the Board.

  • Bachelor's Degree or beyond in accounting is required.

  • At least 1-3 years in a similar role with comparable responsibilities.

  • This is an autonomous position, so you should be self-sufficient and self-motivated. It's also a collaborative position, so you must be able to receive feedback about your work.

  • Solid communication, technology, organization and analytical skills. Advanced Excel skills.

  • General overview of the goals and purposes of the YMCA and how it operates as a local, national, and international movement.

Will receive CPR/First Aid training within 90 days and maintain. May be required to sit for extended periods of time. May be required to lift up to 20 pounds in the form of office supplies and materials. Must be able to handle deadlines and stressful situations.

Core and Strategic Functions

Accounting and Finance

  • Ensures the maintenance of the general ledger and the processing of transactions.

  • Creates financial analysis of operations and reviews with others for the purpose of determining actions, goals and projections.

  • Produces financial and management reports on a recurring basis and reviews prior to distribution.

  • Serves as a liaison and for the external financial statement audit and works with CFO to respond to recommendations.

  • Helps establish fiscal policies, procedures and controls for the organization.

  • Reconciles investment accounts.

  • Prepares the reconciliation and remittance of retirement transmittals.

  • Creates grant reimbursement requests and reconciliations.

  • Prepares grant budgets and reports for foundations, local agencies, and in some cases, County, State or Federal awards, in coordination with Grant Writer.

  • Accounts for tangible fixed assets.

  • Reconciles balance sheet accounts.

  • Helps coordinate the YMCA budget process including training, assistance to teams in the preparation process and working with the CFO to finalize for Board approval.

  • Develops pro-forma analyses to determine the feasibility of new opportunities.
