Job Description

The Senior Accountant will report to the Senior Director, Finance with a dotted line to the Senior Manager, Tax. This position will provide hands-on support for a wide range of responsibilities to ensure the integrity and operational effectiveness of the Accounting & Tax function. The candidate should possess strong analytical skills, a collaborative work ethic, and ability to identify and drive process improvement.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with the preparation and/or review of monthly account reconciliations and other close functions.

  • Assist with the preparation of the monthly, quarterly, and annual USGAAP Financial statements, cash flow, footnotes, and audit support.

  • Assist with quarterly governmental reporting.

  • Assist with the quarterly debt covenant calculation and lender presentation.

  • Assist the Senior Manager, Tax with the preparation of tax estimates and extension calculations; assists with the preparation of tax work papers that create a proper audit trail from the financial accounts to the returns and assist with other work paper preparation as needed.

  • Provide support for state audit defence including building responses. Coordinates responses with the Senior Manager, Tax.

  • Maintains timely and accurate schedules for tax depreciation including Quarterly updates to tax fixed assets software with new additions and disposals, preparing tax roll forward schedules and maintaining the basis variance between book and tax cost.

  • Gain the knowledge necessary to serve as the primary back on the preparation of sales tax returns.

  • Assist with state notices and other ad hoc tax projects.

Skills/Requirements

Education

Requires a Bachelor's degree. Master's degree preferred. Requires CPA certification.

Work Experience

Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 4 years and a Master's degree; or a PhD with 2 years' experience; or equivalent experience. Typical range is 4-7 years.

Knowledge, skills and abilities

  • A motivated strategic thinker with strong organizational and project management skills and proven problem solving and decision making capabilities.

  • Ability to interpret and apply government regulations and related technical requirements to global business scenarios.

  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills and ability to influence others.

  • Must be able to work well in a team environment as well as independently, requiring minimal supervision.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills: experience working across multiple levels, functions and regions; able to communicate complex issues in a clear and concise manner.

  • Experience in Public Accounting is required. Industry experience is a plus.
