The Senior Accountant is part of the US accounting team responsible for accounting matters, including monthly reporting, compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) and the application of accounting policies for activity in Alnylam's largest legal entity. Working in a fast-growing company that recently launched its first commercial product, this position gives the individual the opportunity to shape financial reporting policies and procedures as the Finance function grows.
Reporting to Accounting Manager, the position will require extensive and effective collaboration with multiple Finance functions, cross-functional teams.
Summary of Key Responsibilities
Performing monthly close activities such as preparing journal entries, reconciling balance sheet and P&L accounts, and performing analytical reviews
Play a key role in the monthly, quarterly and year end process by completing monthly reconciliations and tasks in Blackline platform
Support the external reporting process, coordinating with the external reporting team to ensure that key inputs are provided timely
Ensure that the company's financial reporting risk assessment and internal controls are updated for evolving risks as the company's size and complexity grows
Support improvement and building of appropriate systems and processes to facilitate timely and accurate closing of monthly financial statements
Support process improvement activities including enhancing current financial processes, and leverage technology to increase effectiveness
Other tasks as assigned
Bachelor's degree, preferably in Accounting, Finance, or related field
2 years of progressive experience in a pharmaceutical or biotech accounting environment
Experience in public accounting firm and CPA preferred
Must possess a strong knowledge of accounting principles, including GAAP and Sarbanes-Oxley
Strong analytical and Microsoft Office skills, specifically Excel
Experience with ERP systems; SAP preferred
Attention to detail and accuracy and ability to manage time effectively
Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
Ability to manage competing priorities with deadlines, without sacrificing quality
Must demonstrate initiative and be able to work independently as well as part of a team
