Under general supervision and working with the Controller, Assistant Controller, and the Accounting department, incumbent is responsible for independently performing the full range of professional accounting work which requires a thorough knowledge of General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). This Includes working closely with other departments on the review of their department statements and presenting current financial data for all year-round events and shows. Assist in the analysis of budget variances, general ledger accounts, and financial statements. Compile the department, business unit, and consolidated budget.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure accounting program activities are carried out in accordance to GAAP

  • Correct and reconcile account balances to external data

  • Identify actual and potential problems and recommend corrective or preventative action

  • Develop financial statements and reports

  • Updating recurring journal entries and preparation of monthly journal entries

  • Responsible for monthly reconciliation of various general ledger accounts

  • Assist Assistant Controller with maintenance of computerized general ledger system and design of financial reports, as required

  • Acts as a liaison between accounting and other departments

  • Assists with the development of the annual budget

  • Recommend changes to and assist with documentation and maintenance of business processes

  • Performs other duties as required

Required Skills

  • Requires a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or Business and 4 years of experience in general/cost accounting, preferably with a public accounting firm

  • Must have a strong knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles)

  • Must be able to operate a 10-key calculator and type by touch

  • Must have good mathematical skills

  • Must be able to analyze financial information quickly and accurately

  • Must be able to work independently, be detailed oriented, and be able to work efficiently in a fast pace environment

  • Must be able to effectively present information both written and verbally in one-to-one and small group situations to managers, vendors and other employees of the organization

  • Must have working knowledge of automated accounting systems and be proficient in systems, including Excel and Word

  • Position requires confidentiality and the highest standards of business ethics

Nucor Skyline has the most Comprehensive Geostructural Product Offering from a Single Company. This position will be based at the plant and will be the liaison between Operations and Accounting. His/her major responsibility is to manage all daily accounting transactions, understand the different cost components, develop/adjust standard cost in order to reflect the product cost, make sure the whole value chain is properly reflected in the product cost, understand and explain variances to budget/standards. He/she will assist the plant manager in the decision making process by providing timely the relevant KPI's and help optimize the cost at the plant. Additionally, this position will be actively involved in the financial review/management of plant inventory and daily production. Budget Responsibility (direct): responsible for budgeting and forecasting the plant cost (fixed and variable), calculate cost savings and explain variances BASIC FUNCTIONS: The plant is vertically integrated in the Nucor Skyline business: the plant is responsible for the cost optimization, the timely delivery and the quality of the products manufactured. This position reports to the Plant Manager and have a dotted line to Corporate Accounting. The plant is considered a profit center and the performance of the plant is measured by operating KPIs. Moreover, the plant will have a positive or negative contribution to the company's gross profit, based on the following (mainly): 1) rate of overhead absorption; 2) rate of scrap generation; and 3) purchase price variances for inventory. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: * Proactive in presenting results to plant management; good team worker (plant, supply chain, corporate accounting, sales), flexibility required some periods of the year (budget) and month (closing); strong personality to discuss issues with plant management.
