The Senior Account Executive will join our team to work on specifically assigned healthcare, biotech and pharmaceutical PR accounts. The primary objective will be to generate and be responsible for building relationships and securing top-level media placements in appropriate business and trade healthcare media for accounts as assigned. The successful candidate will support any and all public relations/press events or scientific conferences relative to the client and the accounts assigned. The candidate must also actively engage in social media on behalf of both the firm and assigned accounts (as determined by the scope of work specific to the client). S/he will manage and execute, working with internal team members and coordinating with client contacts and 3rd parties. S/he will also enjoy working in a smart, dynamic, entrepreneurial, client-focused, team-oriented environment.


  • Coordinate and execute overall communications/public relations/marketing strategies for accounts. Schedule and attend ALL client meetings. Interface with clients daily to ensure that the quality and quantity of work is achieved and that all clients' needs are being met in a timely manner.

  • Develop story angles and story ideas for assigned healthcare accounts as well as coordination of creative and graphic design work that may need to support story placement.

  • Manage workflow of all accounts as assigned to ensure timely response to accounts needs, this would include but not be limited to: gaining approval of written press releases, compilation of accurate media press lists, distributing press releases, assigning photographers as approved by client, checking to ensure accuracy, coordinate media interviews and handling all media follow up, etc.

  • Additional writing assignments may include copy for websites, ads, brochures, newsletters, PowerPoint presentations, special event scripts and speeches, radio commercial and PSA copy, video scripts and other client related or media correspondence

  • Develop accurate, complete and updated media distribution lists for each "pitch" including news advisories, pitch letters and news releases.

  • Coordinate special events on behalf of clients, i.e.: press conferences, luncheons, ribbon cuttings, photo opportunities, etc.

  • Make timely follow-up by phone, in writing and in some cases, in person, with reporters, editors and writers for story development and media coverage.

  • 4 - 6 years of media focused communications experience in a communications/public relations firm or in house experience at a biotech or pharmaceutical organization required (agency/client services or consulting experience preferred)

  • A passion for media relations

Our new Senior Account Executive will join our team to support the day-to-day implementation of communications programs and campaigns for 3-4 healthcare accounts. Working in close collaboration with both junior and senior staff, the SAE will support a wide variety of activities, ranging from communications strategy development, messaging, branding, crisis communications, internal communications, advocacy communications, new product launches, and more in a fast-paced, exciting and dynamic environment. Our new SAE will have the opportunity to work with innovators and disruptors at the forefront of healthcare innovation while honing project and people management skills. Our uniquely diverse healthcare clients include emerging biotechs, global pharmaceutical companies, government agencies, advocacy groups, medical device and diagnostic companies, policy organizations and more. Responsibilities * Account Management: Support account leads to maintain positive ongoing relationships with clients, including contributing to long-term strategic thinking while managing and anticipating needs on a daily basis and developing appropriate solutions for clients and senior leadership * Account Implementation: Working closely with account leads on managing the implementation of strategic communications plans, ensuring that tasks are appropriately delegated and project deadlines are on target * Media Outreach: Establish and maintain relationships with reporters by regularly pitching and otherwise executing media relations campaigns, while proactively contributing to high-level media engagement strategies * Writing and Editing: Draft communications materials, including slide decks, press releases, backgrounders, pitches, briefing documents, etc. and work closely with junior staff to develop and edit materials, providing feedback as needed * Finance and Budget Management: Develop and maintain financial trackers for client accounts and otherwise support client invoicing, and develop budgets for programs with minimal supervision * Research: Conduct and oversee research projects including competitor, media, and stakeholder audits, evaluate information/data, and develop succinct, accurate summaries/analyses of results * Business Development: Assist with new business development, including taking an active role as part of the development/pitch team by attending brainstorming sessions, gathering and organization information, conducting research, and assisting with program development, as requested * Coaching and Team Leadership: Begin to increasingly coach and mentor junior staff members, providing constructive feedback on client work and identifying opportunities for professional advancement Qualifications * Bachelor's degree; master's degree in a related field a plus * 4+ years of experience in public relations; client-facing agency experience preferred * Previous experience in the development of communications programs for healthcare companies or organizations required; implementation of integrated, cross-functional campaigns a plus * Detail oriented, with strong writing, editing, researching and organizational skills * Demonstrated ability to independently manage multiple projects and competing priorities * Project management experience, including ability to monitor and manage budgets and develop accurate project timelines * Previous experience in delegating and overseeing the work of junior staff (including interns or co-ops) and interest in mentoring entry-level professionals Ogilvy & Mather Cambridge MA
