Carnegie Mellon University's College of Fine Arts (CFA), School of Music, is searching for a Senior Academic Advisor to join their team as the school's primary advisor. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives in an interesting and challenging work environment. You will contribute to the department by being responsible for academic advising and developing programs, policies, and procedures to enhance and expand undergraduate retention and graduation.

Core responsibilities include:

  • Serves as primary academic advisor for the School of Music; meets privately with students to review academic progress, provides guidance in developing individualized, meaningful education plans for advisees which include fulfilling general educational and degree requirements, making academic progress and setting personal goals.

  • Performs administrative tasks related to advising: maintaining student files and records, evaluating transfer credits and recommending academic actions; Performs on-line academic audits of student records, checking for declarations of majors, fulfilling of prerequisites, maintenance of required grade average, and progress towards graduation. Manages the academic components of commencement.

  • Works with the Directors of Undergraduate and Graduate Studies to develop the School of Music course schedule, including registration and room scheduling.

  • Maintains a strong understanding of University and College policies and procedures to provide information about campus-wide resources to enhance the student's experience; engages with multiple campus offices, including the Office of Institutional Equity and Title IX, Counseling and Psychological Services, and the Office of Disability Resources.

  • Trains and manages graduate assistants and student workers;

  • Performs related duties and special projects as required.

You should demonstrate:

  • Excellent organizational and planning skills with strong attention to detail.

  • Ability to work in a culturally diverse environment and interact with campus community and external customers.

Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree
  • 1-3 years' experience in academic advising/counseling.

  • This is a full-time (37.5 hours/week), non-exempt position
