Position Details: 7.0 hrs/day, 8:15am to 3:45pm; 191 days/year.

Potential reduction hours due to Wednesday early release, early dismissals for parent conferences, holidays, and last day of school; reduction hours subject to change. Job assignment and/or building assignment are subject to change based on program needs determined by the district.

Pay Range: PSE 1 Salary Schedule

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

The job of District SEL Behavior Technician was established for the purpose/s of assisting in providing intentional student supports of an individual student or small groups of special education students in Kindergarten through 12th grade under the direction of a certificated teacher and the Office of Special Programs. Our SEL Behavior Technicians work in a fast-paced, dynamic, and sometimes intense environment. SEL support is individualized to meet the needs of each child, and used to decrease disruptive, distraction, and unsafe behaviors by promoting methods and strategies for the student to conventionally communicate their needs. You will work in a team environment while working one-on-one with students. The SEL Behavior Technician plays a central role in carrying out specific student plans designed by the special education team SEL team. You will assist with the implementation of communication, behavioral, and instructional support plans; monitoring and reporting student behavior and performance; and performing a variety of clerical duties as assigned. This classification may involve two or more locations requiring travel between sites within the workday.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assists students by using behavioral strategies, positive reinforcements, social stories, peer facilitation and peer training for the purpose of teaching conventional communication and social behaviors in accordance with students' social emotional learning goals.

  • Assists students in a group, or on an individual basis, with specific instructional tasks and/or specific student goals for the purpose of accommodating their development and growth.

  • Assists students with adaptive and other self-care needs as required for the purpose of maximizing their independence and assimilation within the school environment.

  • Communicates with teachers and other members of the instructional team regarding assigned students' daily progress for the purpose of assessing students' progress.

  • Gathers, complies, and prepares data of observations of student performance in academic and school activities for the purpose of monitoring and reporting progress with identified goals.

  • Assists special education teams with the creating data collection systems and language/communication tools.

  • Participates in training for the purpose of learning new skills relevant to working with students with unconventional communication methods and challenging behaviors.

  • Maintain student confidentiality according to HIPAA and FERPA guideliness

  • Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and board policies

  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Interested individuals must be patient, dedicated, reliable, mature and committed team players with a strong desire to change the lives of individuals.

  • Successful experience working within a Structured Learning Classroom preferred.

  • Knowledge of research related to autism, sensory, and communication supports.

  • Must be teachable and have ability to work under stress, in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

  • Successful experience working with student with emotional disabilities.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with various groups and gain consensus related to project implementation and other problem solving. Additionally, demonstrated strong interpersonal skills with individuals, teams, and groups (teachers, parents, administrators and support staff.

  • Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule and travel between buildings as required.

  • Experience working with interdisciplinary teams and interagency teams.

  • Demonstrates ability to satisfactorily perform the essential job functions listed above.

  • Willingness to participate in professional development activities designed to upgrade professional skills.

  • Must be willing to uphold board policies and follow administrative procedures.
