Chevron is accepting online applications for the position of Seismic Velocity Modeling Geophysicist located in Houston, TX through July 4, 2019 at 11:59 (Eastern Standard Time).
We are seeking an experienced Seismic Velocity Modeling Geophysicist to join us in the Chevron Energy Technology Company (ETC) Earth Science Department. The successful candidate will apply state of the art methodologies in anisotropic velocity modeling to for subsurface imaging. In addition, they will perform related services, such as aperture and illumination modeling, pore pressure estimation, depth uncertainty assessment, walkaway and vertical VSP modeling, and interactive velocity modeling and imaging. An important expectation of this position is effective mentoring of and knowledge sharing with early career employees during project execution.
Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:
Derive velocity models for subsurface imaging on projects worldwide by utilizing a mix of Chevron proprietary and Vendor technologies
Partner with Chevron Asset teams to develop and execute technical solutions to address key subsurface uncertainties / business decisions
Evaluate and deploy Chevron proprietary technology and workflows in velocity modeling, depth uncertainty and seismic imaging
Advise Chevron Asset teams and Management on the value of the latest technology innovations and opportunities in velocity modeling
Mentor and train Chevron earth scientists in all aspects of technologies related to velocity modeling and depth uncertainty
Represent Chevron in technical meetings with internal / external service providers, partner companies and national governments
Minimum of Bachelor's degree in Geophysics, Physics or Geology or MEchanical Engineering. .
Minimum of 7 years' experience in applied velocity modeling and depth imaging of marine and land seismic data.
Demonstrated knowledge of advanced methods in velocity modeling including anisotropy estimation, tomography, aperture / illumination modeling, depth uncertainty assessment, pore pressure estimation, VSP modeling, interactive modeling & interpretation.
Demonstrated project management including work planning, risk assessment, contingency plans and business acumen.
Effective oral / written communication across diverse technical disciplines (Geophysics, Geology, Geomechanics, Reservoir Engineering).
Master's degree in Geophysics, Physics or Geology
Experience building velocity models utilizing data from a wide range of seismic acquisition methods (Land, Marine, OBS, Borehole)
Knowledge of industry suppliers in seismic velocity modeling and depth imaging
Experience with ProMAX / SeisSpace, GOCAD, Petrel and Ikon software
